[Discussion] Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

From when you hear commercials to when you use it what do you think about them? When I hear commercials blatantly playing Christmas music and everything in the video points to Christmas without a hint of other holidays but they still say happy holidays it's like

Like this one commercial out of many that do this play "We wish you a merry christmas" song either with singing or just instrumental but then they say Happy Holidays right after the song stops playing. I am like "Look, we all know your commercial is Christmas oriented so just say it."

When people just say happy holidays it is cool with me because you do not know what they are celebrating(unless you do) but if you are dressed up in Christmas gear and blatantly celebrating Christmas or going door to door singing without a hint of anything else and still say Happy Holidays again

Basically if for me if you say "Happy Holidays" at least show that you mean it and not just saying it to not offend people.

sadly I never celebrated Christmas before nor have I ever gotten a gift but I go with happy holidays because people may have other holidays too or call it something other than christmas

If you celebrate Christmas, say Merry Christmas. If you're Jewish and someone says Merry Christmas to you, respond with Happy Hanukkah. If you're Atheist and someone says Happy Hanukkah to you, respond with Happy Holidays.

No need to be sensitive about it when people are just trying to wish good will on you.

This is exactly what I think of it. I don't get why some people are so sensitive about one cheerful greeting. Alright, you don't celebrate Christmas - so what? It's the thought that counts. If people wish you a Merry Christmas, either respond with the holiday you celebrate or just say Happy holidays. No need to get annoyed at just one greeting
