Hopefully this won't become a flame war...

the point is to compare and contrast two series and talk about the advantages and disadvantages of each one. Hopefully this will help people determine which series fits their liking. This is about opinion, so don't be too mad if somebody trashes a series or something; it'll likely happen.

Naruto vs. One Piece
Naruto:
+ I prefer the fights in Naruto. It has its flaws too but it has great ideas along with it.
+ I enjoy the audio more anime-wise
- I personally feel that the story forces the reader to make too many assumptions.
- Some roles for characters feel neglected. Especially in Part 2. Maybe it will change soon but some damage has already been done in this aspect.

One Piece:
+ The side stories are usually better, and it has a great plot line overall.
+ The writer is willing to take further steps (at least compared to Shippden)
- I don't really like the art too much. Find is harder to figure out what's going on.
- Some arcs can be a bit slow, and might seem dragged out.

Both have good characters. Note that I haven't completely caught up to One Piece either.

Death Note vs. Liar Game
Death Note:
+ It's partially fantasy, which attracts more people (the Death Note, the existence of Shinigami, etc.)
+ The anime has an awesome audio track - the Openings and theme songs were cool
+ The characters are likeable and they're pretty smart too
- While the main characters are smart, I felt some of their logic was a bit flawed and weren't the best options
- It went a bit downhill after L died IMO (which a lot of others say). Although I also think everything past Light's sacrificed ownership of the Death Note was more for comedic relief.

Liar Game:
+ The idea of competing in games of intelligence and psychology for money is a good concept.
+ The characters are usually pretty fun. Some dislike Nao but I don't find her to be that bad.
+ The characters are also very intelligent and the way people play these games is interesting.
- A plot hole in this manga might ruin the entire round for the reader even if there aren't many.
- It takes a while for new chapters to come out (it can go on break for months sometimes).

These manga/anime are for those who prefer more mind challenging feats over fights.

I agree... with the Naruto v. OP

Naruto is best for me but it has its flaws... I don't watch or read OP but have seen it and read it and agree that its plot and development is better then Naruto's but I simply can't stand the animation and concept... its way to goofy for me to take seriously just IMO

I follow both Naruto and One Piece. Because Naruto is being fodderized in both animations and storyline, I put Naruto at the same rank as One Piece which is; 7.8 on a scale from 1 to 10

Were you put off by Luffy's goofy face? Lol. It's actually not like that and Luffy can be serious... dead serious. The majority of characters have their unique looks and stuff. Not like Bleach where everyone looks the same but with a different haircut xd

I agree the anime does it make seem pretty childish. I read the manga first and I was surprised at how some arcs turned out. Both are great series though.

I actually see nothing wrong with One peice's art but that's just me. I see a lot of people say that.
Yeah art styles can vary from person to person. There are actually quite a few manga out there that seem to be deranged when it comes to this category for me so maybe it's just the way I read manga.
best one: boombox vs deathnote
Actually haven't seen boombox yet... you can give a compare/contrast if you like.

Current Naruto isn't doing very well.. I can just hope that the Juubi's new form does some damage or that we switch to Sasuke's story and the Ones who know all are interesting.

The manga doesn't seem too goofy but the anime just has something about it that puts me off. Chopper's story in the anime was pretty sad tho T~T

Honestly I thought that all women looked the same the first time I read One Piece. I guess it got better over time though.

I just remembered Enel's OHSHIT face

Hmm.. I thought the 2nd comparison would be talked about a lot because of the huge amount of Death Note fans.. but the first one is getting most of the attention. Or maybe they just haven't read the LG. Anybody got a good Bleach comparison? I haven't read that series yet.

I've never watched nor heard of Liar Game before. As for Bleach... well, I can't really think of anything to compare it with. It's heavily action-oriented, and though there also is a decent storyline going on, it's not meant to be taken too seriously. I suppose you could somewhat compare it to Naruto as well but it's still very different. Naruto has all these moral themes going on while Bleach is more for entertainment and epic fights.
Yeah it's not too common of a series. I keep hearing mixed reviews about Bleach, so I guess there's a defined line between liking it or not. If it's an action-packed type of series, does the manga ruin the experience? Or are the fights still pretty good on drawn panels?

Yeah, it's the type of thing if you take it too seriously, you're just ruining it for yourself. The fights drawn in the manga are still great, though seeing them animated is always fantastic - easily the best fights out of the big three, in both anime & manga, imo. That is its main appeal, after all. You'll just have to read it to judge for yourself. The current storyline is amazing tho. Def worth a read.
Hm I see. I guess I'll just have to add it to my list of manga to read (Getting a bit too large here).

By the way Soul Eater is actually pretty cool. Very little complaints about it so far... half way in now.

Does anybody have any comparisons out there? Could be a good way to get the less known series out in the open...

Preferably one similar to Shamen King or something since I haven't read that one yet

I'd like to get into one piece but the fact that it's still got at least another 10 years is what kinda stops me, and the fact that the opening arcs drag on for far too long before an overarching plot starts. The whole reason I lost interest in comic books is because the story is never gonna conclude. The main reason I got back into Naruto is that it's reaching it's end.
I don't really know what to compare to Soul Eater however.
