Shikaku.. smartest Naruto character?

Yes, people have tossed and turned on who the smartest character in Naruto is.

To be fair, a lot of fellow ninjas have shown impressive feats in intellectual observation and analysis.

The top runners are in my opinion Shikaku, Minato, and Itachi.

I mean come on, did you guys see how effective Shikaku was at creating a huge strategy in only a short period

of time against the Juubi? That is outstanding.

Yes, Minato and Itachi are geniuses too. We all have a bias. But in my opinion, Shikaku is an underrated genius.

Do you guys think that Shikaku is on par intellectually with Minato or Itachi? Who do you think is the smartest?

shikaku is smarter by far

minato is good at quickly anaylzeing a situation and making a plan....sometimes long term, as in the course of less than a minute he planned out that sealing kurama into naruto was a good thing to do.....and look at the fruit of his plan.....so he is capable at great battle strategies pretty much instantly and figuring how things work

itachi is pretty much the same as minato.....

Shikaku's the best at making battle strategies like shikamaru and kakashi, but i'd say Minato and to a lesser extent Itachi have proven better at making long-term plans. unless Shikaku has some scheme that i'm not aware of

He is just specialized for that, he is good at that. And that's his job.

Sure, I would say that Itachi and Minato could defeat him in a battle. But could they command an army like he could and conjure a mass strategy in a short period of time? Possibly. There is a means of comparison here though.

From what we seen and if you contrast that to what the manga stated about what qualities that are needed in a leader and what makes a good strategist then i would would say shikaku but intellect comes in many forms.For a leader shikau meets every criteria esp ones that are vital for war.Orochimaru however is intellectual academic.So as you can see it is not purely black and white.

So my answer will be broken down into two.


Shikaku is very intelligent and makes a brilliants leader and strategist he is more align in the political field. Orochimaru equally brilliant and a magnificent scholar unsurpassed by his peers in that regard he is more akin to a physicist.

Shikamaru (easily one of the physically weakest of the konoha 11) was able to defeat Hidan (an immortal), the same guy that killed Asuma (who is stronger than Shikamaru), by outsmarting him. I'm not saying Shikaku wins against everyone... Just that your argument has no value

Shikamaru got prep, the location was in his favour and he had full knowledge. Also it was a bad match up for Hidan since he can't stand in his ritual circle since Shikamaru could just possess him with shadows.

@OP: Yes Shikaku is the smartest character in Naruto when it comes to making strategies.
