He joined Akatsuki at 11 because he defeated Orochimaru in an Akatsuki uniform.
He then left the village at 13.

But Obito said Itachi joined Akatsuki after leaving the village.

Exactly why you have to understand he wasn't fully an akatsuki member at that time...he was only in the organization to keep watch on tobi for them to maintain the deal...it was after the massacre that he fully left konoha, and fully joined akatsuki.. the deal still stood..

Ok, I'm finding it hard to believe that Itachi joined Akatsuki twice.

Once at 11 when he "partially" joined, and then again at 13 when he left the village. I'm certain he joined after leaving the village, but I can't find any manga scans showing Itachi joining Akatsuki at 11.

Itachi was NOT an anbu squad leader at this time. He was in anbu, however he was not a leader. Obito's death did however awakened his MS and going by the time line from when he joined anbu at 10 years and a couple of months it clear that he awakened it roughly at the age of 11.

To put it simple itachi awakened the ms whilst he was in anbu which going by the time line is roughly 11 years. Its after did he become a squad leader. (You have to go up the rankings like anything else). Its very possible that whilst in anbu and not a leader he met up with tobi and going by the manga its after itachi got the ms (obito's death) did this happen. Its rather certain that he joined akatsuki whilst in anbu, though not the leader

That same chapter, in the previous page obito or should i say madara denies having anything to do with the fox that night. In order words the time frame is a weighs greater than obito's words.

He later awakened the ms during this time in anbu.
It seem he was aware of obito's presence and later approached him and they made a deal. Its possible that this is when itachi joined akatsuki, when he approached obito which happened before the massacre.

I see no reason why itachi cannot be in akatsuki whilst being in anbu. Akatsuki were not very activate around that time as jiraiya states

Indeed. Because there is no factual answer, I still do not believe that Itachi joined Akatsuki whilst being in the village/member of Anbu. I still think Kishi messed up the ages. But it could be plausible, however I think it's more likely that it isn't.

Anyways, like you said, there is no point continuing on about this any further. I need to sleep now anyways.

Let me add my 2 cents to this subject real quick.

It is very plausible that Itachi joined Akatsuki at 11. Take another look at this page:

From this statement, I can imply that the anbu have some sort of initiation process to be able to officially join their organization. With that being said, can't the same inference be made for the Akatsuki as well? I mean after all, the Akatsuki is a secret organization. Would it be too much of a stretch to suggest that the Akatsuki also have some sort of initiation process you have to go through before officially joining their organization as well? :shrug:


From that theory, it can be heavily inferred that Itachi joined Akatsuki at age 11 as a prospect but was not made an official member until after he carried out the Uchiha massacre and left the village. I might even go as far as to say Itachi carrying out the Uchiha massacre was the event that helped push him from potential candidate to official Akastuki member.
