Aoba is konoha jounin and he has a somewhat laid-back and jovial personality most of the time, often joking with others around him. He is also prone to panicking at times, but when the situation calls for it he is decisive, calm, and collected.

until now i think he still mysterious !!!

i don't find him useless , he's jounin and tsunade choice him with gai to protect naruto ..

also,
he managed to stop kakuzu until ino and choji take asuma away from the battlefiled and he fought kakuzu 1vs1

He's a good jounin level ninja. Realistically he's probably one of the best ninjas in Konoha, although obviously he pales in comparison to guys like Naruto and Kakashi. He was one of the few people who detected Kabuto's genjutsu at the chuunin exams arena and dispelled it and helped fight off the sand/sound ninjas. He was a leader of one of the 5 teams that was supposed to fight Team Hidan + Kakuzu. And he was sent with Gai and Yamato to protect Naruto on a top secret mission. He is definitely held in relative high regard in Konoha. But the gap between the super ninjas like Naruto/Obito/Nagato/Itachi/Madara/Sasuke and regular jounin is so great that it makes perfectly decent jounin like Aoba look weak.
