First of all let's clear one thing up: In order to measure a character's strength and awesomeness one must never rely solely on vain statements from the manga that ultimately never prove shit and can have seemingly countless of interpretations.

As you all must know Gai is Kishimoto's homage to martial arts legend Bruce ****ing Lee, who just so happens to be widely regarded as the most influential martial artist of the 20th Century (that's right folks, even moar badass than Chuck freakin' Norris), which leads me to honestly believe that his proficiency in taijutsu is far superior to any other character's.

Another one of Gai's most well known traits is his charismatic hot-blooded personality, apparently inspired by one of Kishi's gym teachers as he stated on an interview. "Kishimoto goes on to say that he probably wouldn't get along with Guy, as Guy is too intense for him."

But the thing that truly makes him possibly the most likable and inspiring character in the Narutoverse is the fact that unlike other Elite Jounins he's got the balls to actually shed tears during emotional moments.

Itachi or Pain scared of Gai exactly where is your serious part? He could match with Kisame because Kisames attacks only hit users with Massive chakra and not users like Gai who has almost non.

We saw Itachi vs Pain and we saw Itachi vs Kabuto... His geniousity has no limits...
