Let me give you an example some bad or early translations from the Naruto Manga have referred to the sage as 'Hermit of The Six Paths'.

I heard somewhere the title 'sage', 'hermit' (or whatever) in Japanese refers to someone who has dedicated themselves to something(something like that).
