I found this really interesting thread on other Naruto forum about Tobi and thought I should share with you.
This guys is so observant, lol.

During one of the filler arcs, Tobi stopped at a Dango shop with Deidara, and said this.

“Ichibi, Nibi, Sanbi, boku wa Tobi!” while referring to the tailed beasts.

It translates to: “Ichibi, Nibi, Sanbi, and I’m Tobi!”

Tobi’s plan for world domination is to revive the Juubi, or “Ten-Tailed Beast”.

But he also said that he was trying to achieve a complete form of his own.

Here’s the neat part:
When counting from one to ten in Japanese, it goes:
Ichi, Ni, San, Yon, Go, Roku, Shichi, Hachi, Kyuu, Juu.

When counting objects, it goes differently:
Hitotsu, Futatsu, Mittsu, Yottsu, Itsusu, Muttsu, Nanatsu, Yatsu, Kokonotsu, To.

The tailed beasts get their names by combining the character for the number of tails they have with the character for “bi”.

That means that Tobi’s statement to Deidara can actually be translated as:
“One-Tailed, Two-Tailed, Three-Tailed, and I’m Ten-Tailed!”

What do you guys think? :)

Wow.. Great find, i never thought of that xD
I was shocked as well when saw that.
And what the guy here says, if you think about it, it actually matched. Former shell of myself - Obito saying this about himself.
It's a former shell (or something like that) - Madara saying that about the Gedo Mazo (Juubi shell)

On a completely unrelated note, is anyone losing post count? I was in the middle of replying to a post on a different thread, and next thing I know the thread doesn't exist o.o

Great find btw

I don't know why people dismiss filler. They have truth to them and can show us really great finds like this. Good job bro
Thanks, though I don't deserve the merits.
Seems like this is a filler that should be considered a bit of a cannon? xd

Dunno about that, maybe the thread got closed and deleted because it didn't respect the rules so if it got deleted, the posts went down with it as well.

Thanks, I guess, although I only found that member's thread. :)
So the credit goes to him. :)

Intriguing indeed
Isn't it? At least now the whole Tobi name has another meaning, not just Tobi - Obito.

NICE!

I was partly aware of this whole Tobi=10 thing. The origin being counting of numbers is new to me though.
I dont know if it is wrong, but i was told that Tobi means 10 in old japanese.
Anyway, i believe it to be correct. It being the fact that he refers to himself as 10tail, wether this is old japanese or counting of objects i dunno (because i really lack knowledge of both, but i trust your counting of objects more). Even though its odd, that he uses a different counting for himself compared to the beasts, it would be to bloody obvious if he called himself Juubi xd. So he had to use a different counting i guess to keep the mystery going.

In hewbrew Tobi/Toby/Tobias means ''the lord is good/God is good''. I dont know in what way this holds importance as well, but I dont think Kishi is aware of the hebrew meaning.

Well, it's not mine, I just found it and shared with you guys so all the credit goes to the one that made it, heheh.
But he seemed pretty aware of japaneese counting and stuff like that.

Regarding hebrew, dunno what to say, heh. xd
He might know, he might not.

Strata Spartan liked this post.

Who knew a filler would reveal so much information!

Also, I do remember this episode too! Psh...Deidara isn't quick on his feet. You think he would of turned Tobi around to see even a glimpse of his identity when he was eating those sweet dumplings. >_>
