Losing Orochimaru was one of the worst blows in the Akatsuki

As we all know, Orochimaru is a very strong ninja.

He has a base of 35 points, he has edo tensei, had Manda, and is probably one of the top akatsuki members. Probably right behind Itachi.

But that wasn't what made the blow as bad as it was when Itachi made him run away.

Orochimaru owned a village, so they lost at least 20,000 other ninjas task force.

If Orochimaru stayed, it would be Akatsuki members+Zetsu army+Amegakure+Otogakure+Edos

Plus, Orochimaru is easily one of the most resourceful and intelligent characters in this manga.

He may not be the strongest (Itachi, Sasuke, Kabuto, Obito, and Nagato are all ahead of him) of the akatsuki, but he was probably the third most valuable (behind Nagato and Obito).

sound ninjas are weak as hell xD they got owned by genins, and sakura gave them a fight because of sakura's traps and her substitutiion jutsu. doubt it'd be a challenge, but that's just 3 sound ninjas.

if oro stayed, he'd screw up the war so hard lol, i bet he'd backstab the akatskui and move on his own motive with kabuto

Well, he had tons of secret bases. And tons of prisoners. And made Sasuke fight a 100 of them just to prove he's powerful.

This, Oro isn't one to help fulfill someone else's goals. He'd ultimately turn against them for his own motives.
