There are no more "Robin Hoods"

There doesn't seem to be any more Robin Hood types these days. I'm not talking about people that rob the rich and feed the poor, I'm talking about influential people. There was no actual Robin Hood of course, though there were some that did things like it and over time it became a legend eventually. It was the idea of Robin Hood, not the person.

There don't seem to be anymore though. People like Martin Luther King for example. Not heroes necessarily, but movements that are pushed by certain individuals...Robin Hoods. So is it that we don't need them anymore, or are people just too cowardly these days?

Touché, Ron Paul is a good example...it just wasn't powerful enough though. I think his efforts might pay off eventually though, especially if others stand up too. xd I guess I'm talking about things that echo throughout history though. ^_^

Real life. RH might have been fiction, but it's the best example I could think of and the legend itself really stands strong.

Him being a black president is not a achievement. I have to say, I think he's a sincere person and truly wanted to follow through his promises. But, then he realised he was not the one in charge. Signing NDAA, sending even more troops overseas, etc. are policies that I doubt he wished for. But no, hes not a 'robin hood'.

Not entirely, like I said there were many people throughout Englands history that acted as a Robin Hood, but they were indeed outlaws for more than just that stuff, they weren't exactly good people either. xd Also, some of them actually had the name Robin supposedly, but I think that was more coincidence. The name "Robin Hood" was given to the legend itself. There was even one particular gentlemen that went through a lot of what the classic Robin Hood tale tells, but whether or not he was "the" Robin Hood is unknown and it's the general consensus that it was an ideal, not a man.

ICELAND. No news from Iceland?… why? How come we hear everything that happens in Egypt but no news about what’s happening in Iceland:

In Iceland, the people has made the government resign, the primary banks have been nationalized, it was decided to not pay the debt that these created with Great Britain and Holland due to their bad financial politics and a public assembly has been created to rewrite the constitution.

And all of this in a peaceful way. A whole revolution against the powers that have created the current global crisis. This is why there hasn’t been any publicity during the last two years: What would happen if the rest of the EU citizens took this as an example? What would happen if the US citizens took this as an example.

This is a summary of the facts:

2008. The main bank of the country is nationalized.
The Krona, the currency of Iceland devaluates and the stock market stops. The country is in bankruptcy

2008. The citizens protest in front of parliament and manage to get new elections that make the resignation of the prime minister and his whole government.
The country is in bad economic situation.
A law proposes paying back the debt to Great Britain and Holland through the payment of 3,500 million euros, which will be paid by the people of Iceland monthly during the next 15 years, with a 5.5% interest.

2010. The people go out in the streets and demand a referendum. In January 2010 the president denies the approval and announces a popular meeting.
In March the referendum and the denial of payment is voted in by 93%. Meanwhile the government has initiated an investigation to bring to justice those responsible for the crisis, and many high level executives and bankers are arrested. The Interpol dictates an order that make all the implicated parties leave the country.

In this crisis an assembly is elected to rewrite a new Constitution which can include the lessons learned from this, and which will substitute the current one (a copy of the Danish Constitution).
25 citizens are chosen, with no political affiliation, out of the 522 candidates. For candidacy all that was needed was to be an adult and have the support of 30 people. The constitutional assembly starts in February of 2011 to present the ‘carta magna’ from the recommendations given by the different assemblies happening throughout the country. It must be approved by the current Parliament and by the one constituted through the next legislative elections.

So in summary of the Icelandic revolution:
-resignation of the whole government
-nationalization of the bank.
-referendum so that the people can decide over the economic decisions.
-incarcerating the responsible parties
-rewriting of the constitution by its people

Have we been informed of this through the media?
Has any political program in radio or TV commented on this?
No! The Icelandic people have been able to show that there is a way to beat the system and has given a democracy lesson to the world

What about Michael Moore? I'm far away from American but I've seen a lot of his documentaries and followed his work for some time, and it just seemed to me that he was really changing some things.

No I won't argue about this with you because you're totally right. Europe, actually no, the whole world has a big lack of good leadership, or someone to put this world in the right mindset.
But until something isn't really gonna change no Robin Hood will appear, because everything is too systematized nowadays, and even the most assertive person wouldn't be capable to make a noticeable changement. That'd have to be a big group of organized intelligent people aiming to make the world better .

Those guys who control the large businesses, the CEO's, etc.

Sadly, money is the only thing that's concrete in the world right now.

Just think about the people who get the most acclaim nowadays.

Oprah
Bill Gates
Steve Jobs (He did.)
Larry Page and Sergey Brin
Anonymous (I've actually seen people make Robin Hood comparisons with these guys)
Mark Zuckerberg

But with no Robin Hoods, there are also no Jokers. (I know, they aren't related, but still.)

Arguably, one of the most influential men ever is Bernie Madoff. He's one of the key contributors to America's economic situation. Think about it. He stole 65 billion dollars from American citizens over a 20 year period. Probably the biggest villain in todays world.
