I highly doubt this....this story revolves around and will always be about naruto and sasuke. sakura only serves as the motivator for naruto(the main character) and the main love interest in sasuke(the other main character) to add drama in the series. If she was to as you put it become one of the most powerful characters in this series she would need a lot of screen time and honestly i don't see her getting enough to classify her at such a lvl. Its to late in the series and for her to magically become super powerful would seem super random and irrelevant to the plot.

Yeah, well that was the requirement for the Sage Mode, though we never know.

I still think that Slug Sage Mode will come to play as Kishi keeps patterns and we already saw that Snake and Frog have, it would be highly unnatural for Kishi who has done this countless times, not to follow the same pattern and develop Slug Sage Mode.

However, don't know to who is going to be assigned to. Tsunade or Sakura?
I do incline to think that it will be given to Tsunade given the fact that the body is not a problem for her, inheriting the Sage body via Hashirama. And we're being proved right now that she is the most resistant one in the whole Narutoverse. We haven't seen anyone being cut in half and survive. Excepting Hidan who is part of his jutsu. Tsunade doesn't even have a jutsu activated.

Tsunade using Slug Sage mode now, actually comes more in handy than anything else. Why? Because at the beginning, all they had to do is seal him or keep him at bay. None knew about his abilities or stuff like that, so using the Sage mode right from the beginning it would've been not such a smart move. And we know that Tsunade is anything but stupid.
Actually when he pulled Perfect Susano'o there was this little small panel where it showed Tsunade preparing to do a hand-seal, however, at that point, supposedly Madara would've been gone as EDO was cancelled.
Once again, why use Slug Sage mode if not needed?
No one knew that Madara was about to break free from the EDO.
Now, the whole Tsunade in half and the Kages beaten. That was a necessary move to show how superior Madara is.
But by keeping her alive, Kishi is sure foreshadowing something.
Plus, not to mention Byakugou's abilities that Kishi showed us and the panel where Dan says not to join her.
Oh, and her statement: I'll never die in battle.
It will be plain stupid to kill her in battle, actually.
And the only time we saw Tsunade near death was in Pein arc, but because chakra exhaustion, not a battle.

So I am sure she will not die and come-up with something.

BUT that is a 50% chances.

Why?

Because Kishi said Sakura needs to grow. Every character from the newer generation that needed to grow had their masters killed so here it is the trick. Tsunade lives or doesn't?

My guess would be that Sakura's growth will be different than the other's. Meaning, once and for all, she'll get past the only thing that hold her temper down, as Kishi said in a manga page, her heart.
Meaning, probably Sasuke.
The only times we have seen Sakura being hold back was when Sasuke came into play so her growth might strongly be connected to that.

After reading Kishi's interview and the manga and making connections, these are the possibilities I came up with.
Hopefully we will get to see something interesting.

I'm not saying slug sage mode is completely far fetched by any means, and I too notice the consistent patters Kishi follows throughout the story. I'm just saying that for Tsunade to hold back such an important technique for this long, especially when it could have potentially cost the other four kage their lives doesn't exactly seem "smart".

Again I don't have anything against Tsunade, and I'm all for the slug sage mode, but I think it was needed in that fight. In fact holding anything back against someone like Madara, especially when he's been advanced that far is a mistake in judgement.

When you bring up patterns you can't deny the fact that both Naruto and Sasuke surpassed there former sensei after they had died. So yes, Sakura's development could be different, but it's not completely unfair to say Tsunade's death could not spur Sakura's development into overdrive.

If it were up to me I would like to have seen Sakura's development progress before the war began, and it would be nice to have her play a bigger role. It's not over yet I know that, and there is a chance for her to do something, I just hope it's soon. As for Tsunade I want her to live, but at the same time I'm not against her death if it means Sakura's development as a character.

Actually, Sakura will have her own development after Kishi is done with Kakashi.
In an interview that I read, Kishi said that Sakura needs to grow-up and he will write about Sasuke's battle with Itachi, Kakashi and afterwards Sakura.

And I was recently re-reading the manga and noticed something weird.
While none of the younger generation was able to recognize Yamato's jutsus, Sakura was the one to do it (four pillar jail jutsu or something like that). Afterwards, in the following missions she has been assigned with Yamato.
Her master is also a Senju.
And we know that initially she was a genjutsu type user.
Now, which is the strongest genjutsu that Shodai had and it was said to even blind the sharingan genjutsu or something like this?
Yup, you guessed it.
Bringer of Darkness.

So maybe this is what awaits for her if not slug sage mode.

I know those connections that I made are a bit far-fetched, but still, the coincidences are big.

If it were up to me, I agree with you, before the war seemed to be the best time, however, thinking at the type of personality Sakura has, meaning she's all soft and doesn't want to hurt anyone and would like shinobis to think and act differently, meaning she is quite soft, noted by Naruto himself, such an experience would benefit her.

Now regarding the last part, imagine me. I am torn between two of my favorite characters.
I would like to see Sakura develop as well but I wouldn't like for Tsunade to die either. Though if it is for this purpose, maaaybe it will half the bitterness of Tsunade's death, heh.

1) As long as there isn't real proof that the Slug Sage mode exist, it doesn't exist and can't be used as evidence that Sakura would get stronger that way

2) To learn Sage mode, you have to have a lot of chakra - Sakura has good chakra control but she doesn't have a large chakra reserve. Even Jiraiya didn't manage a complete Sage mode and he has more chakra than Sakura probably. Naruto is one of the few who mastered it and that's thanks to his Uzumaki heritage and a bit of the Kyuubi

3) Kishimoto-sensei admitted in an interview himself that he has forgotten Sakura - not sure if he's going to make her stronger if he can't even remember properly that she's supposed to be one of the main characters

4) She won't be one of the strongest shinobi by the end of the manga. There are a lot of others who surpass her already. Naruto and Sasuke are a great example of that. Gaara is another one.

I don't say she's weak - she is fairly strong and a good medic nin. I can see her surpassing Tsunade in the medical department (for example her succes with developing an antidote to Sasori's poison) but to state she'll be one of the strongest ... No, can't see that happening. She'll get a bit stronger probably, but one of the strongest ... No, sorry, honestly can't see that happening
