deva path is durable and took a hit from a tailed beast. he is already dead and is a body being controlled by nagato.

itachi would never stand there and fight the 6th paths of pain.

itachi has sharingan.

for those of you who dont understand what that means. it means there would be a clear path leading directly to nagato who cant walk or defend himself without being in edo tensei

so its not that itachi is more powerful than nagato but itachi is smarter and has jutsu that would easily deal with the task at hand.

real logic

nagato has a better chance using pain versus hashi and winning than an uchiha

itachi>nagato>hashi>itachi


itachi versus nagato is a bad match up. complete respect to his power but a profecient sharingan user would easily see thru his tech.

jiraya >nagato pain>jiraya
simply not a sensory type which is why he died before figuring out how the paths worked

so no itachi cannot beat pain. no one can beat pain but itachi culd easily kill nagato as seen in the series

He lost because Nagato can't walk and that makes him an easy target for the Totsuka Blade. There's no mystery.
In all fairness, any ninja with such disability is in a serious disadvantage since they can't dodge anything.

Now if you are talking about the Paths of Pain, it surely would be more difficult for Itachi. However, the shared vision of the corpses would work against Nagato if Itachi decided to use Tsukyomi on one of them.
