I find it kind of weird that Orochimaru says he has no interest in this war:

The real objectif of this war is the Mugen Tsukuyomi and it's obvious that Orochimaru knows that. I doubt Orochimaru would like to spend his entire life in a genjutsu especially knowing how ambitious the guy is.

That's why i think that Orochimaru prepares something incredible. Remember what Suigetsu said when he saw Orochimarus scroll:

You must be registered for see images

"Orochimaru even considered something like this? With this scroll we can gain control of this war"

That means that practically all what is happening right now was planned by Orochimaru.

What if Orochimaru was the real final villain?:shrug:

The anime episode "Helmet Splitter: Jinin Akebino!" shows that someone in the Root was working to disperse the effects of Dead Demon Consuming Seal and creating other seals. Why stop there, why not to find a way to bring back the sealed ones. Could be something interesting. (Hoping that this idea is cannon in the manga).
But, looking how long this flashbacks are going, Kishi is doing everything to prolong the manga.
