Weeell, I know most of NBers don't read Shaman King, but I put the spoilers anyway
:T_T: I'm a big fanboy of the series!!
So I wanted to make this thread to discuss and comment the latest chapter of the sequel called Shaman King Flowers (which I'll call SKF).
So I'll start:
Plot analysis

For the fans of the original SK, we all know that the way it ended made it look like it was end of any related manga, because it seemed like Takei-san didn't have anything else to tell. Except some side-stories (Shaman King Remix Track and Shaman King 0), it was indeed a finished project...the one-shot of SKF tho funny, didn't have much of a plot and Hana-kun and co. were shadows of our beloved characters from SK.
So I was really surprised when Takei-san kept publishing SKF after a few years. I was little skeptical at the beginning, but since I miss SK a lot, I gave it try since last September.
The first two chapters were amusing. Hana-kun shocked me...but I'll talk bout it later, in character analysis sec.
Now, as we the fans now, Takei-san finally revealed the main premise of this sequele. This new battle somehow related to what Rutherford said to the five element warriors (+ Ryu xd lol) it's something not even God can stand a chance against and also it seems to be deeply connected to Anna III (the flower of Maze).
Right now, it's still to early to speculate bout any theory, but I can say I'm very puzzled and excited bout this new premise. Wbu?
As for the Asakura's branches conflict, I thought it was a refreshing way to emulate Ren and Yoh's friendship. It's not that predictable now...don't ya think?
I don't think there's much to add except some of the most bugging questions:
1. Where are Anna and Yoh :T_T:?
2. Why they left?
3.How come Yoh left Amidamaru behind too?! Along side Manta, he was his closest friend!
I rest my case on plot U_U

Character's analysis

Let's star with Hana-kun. At first I clearly saw a lonely boy who somehow resembled Yoh. Later, he turned out to be a brat with anger problems, bad attitude and a nasty mouth. Pretty much like Ana uh? I really like he's now a unique character with resemblances to both of his parents.
Yohanne. We all know he's taking Ren's place. Ren is my fav. character from SK, so I thought he wouldn't be at the altitude of Ren's madness. Right now, he seems to be a very nerd character, but since SKF is slowly taking its own course, Yohanne does not have to compete with Ren anymore. So overall he's ok. Not much has been revealed bout him tho :shrug:
Yohanne's sister (I don't remember her name xd): Same as with Yohanne. Accomplishing a similar role as Jun's.
Anna III: This girl seriously killed me (lol). Right now, she's my fav character of SKF. Quite different from Anna: somehow energetic and cheerful, coquette, enigmatic and deadly agressive. Also, she's a powerful shaman and fights like a boss (lol). I really like her.
Special mentions:
*Tamao: At first I thought her new attitude was strange. I mean, she was that weakling sensible character back then!
But when Ryu explained how wild she turned due the hard weight put on her shoulders, all became understandable. She always admired Anna, but she was also overwhelmed...
And---to finish quickly---who doesn't love the new Tamao???

I've been wondering where the hell are Yoh and Anna too, why did they leave Hana behind, why did they leave everything to Tamao... something tells me that when they'll show up, there will be some interesting twist :3 I didn't like either of them in that very first sequel chapter, where Hana made his first appearance. They seemed changed, like hippie young adults, made me sick.. especially to see Anna like that who, along with Ren, were my favourite characters of SK. I'm quite happy with the new Anna though, Arumi. She's badass ♥ hope she won't fade as the chapters keep coming.

I'm interested to see Men show up too, but considering he's still younger than Hana, I'm guessing it will take a while until that will happen, or at least until he'll be anywhere close to Ren's level. I'm still waiting for the new characters to be great enough to make me forget about wanting to see the old group and focus on the kids instead.

Bottom line, I'm in love with SKF, too bad it comes out monthly only D=

You're right. Men has to live under his father's shadow (btw...what do ya think bout Jeanne uh? That was quite unexpected for me, considering Ren even spat that time (lolololol).

lololol I did like Jeanne, but only in the manga. In anime she was completely useless! At least in manga she had a background, and super fuking amusing powers! And yes, I have great expectation on their child, if he appears T_T

I don't want Men to be a sad copy of his dad though, Ren was unique, a loner yet a great friend, mature because he had no childhood, realistic yet foolish at times. Nothing can beat that.

Choco is retarded. No offense but that's pretty much the most unrealistic thing in the whole manga. I admired him for the equivalent exchange sight vs power, but the jail part was shit.

SK0 wasn't that bad, I really loved Ren's chapter, but the rest were so and so. Did you?

I thought that too...I mean...Ren is Ren!!! He was lit mad too, and had to learn to trust along the whole manga...it didn't suddenly happen. I was skeptical because of that...Hana-kun and co. looked like sad shadows...but now SKF is finally taking its own course, I expect more character development! And Arumi is by far the most exciting and original character!
Well...:shrug: What can I say? It was really weird. How is he suppose to accomplish his laughing dream in jail?

I don't think I know them by names, but it was around the time Ren died, Horo Horo being ready to give his life away while protecting him, Yoh giving up the SK in exchange for Jeanne ressing him, Yoh suddenly becoming concerned about everything and taking responsibility. That must've been the beginning of awesomeness. Don't you agree?

Now back to SKF. I really do like it, at first I thought "oh god not again, this is gonna be one of those spin offs", but I was nicely surprised when I got into it, and now I can't wait for the next chapter!
Another big surplice was Hana, having elements of both his father and mother, but still being an unique character. As for the ones we love and know, Ryu is pretty much the same, but Tamao is completely different, which IMO is a nice refreshment of her character.
The new antagonists Yohanne and family, were also a surplice. When i saw them I thought we were in for the Ren story all over again, Hana is in for a whupping. But as we saw Yohanne was defeated with ease, and it took him and his sis to overpower Hana. Which still leaves me wondering are they so weak, or is Yoh's offspring so OP. And if Hana is really that strong at the beginning of the manga, how will his character progress, maybe he will even surpass Hao, who knows?
Character whise the biggest surplice was Ana III. From the first time I saw her I fell in love . Strong, very OP and she is Hana's FREAKING FIANCE! This is the only character whose progressing I like to see more than Hana's.

As for the manga itself, it resembles the original in many ways , but still brings so many fresh elements to the table. There are alot of questions that need to be answered, but the manga if just starting so.
Personally I think that SKF has the potential to surpass the original SK, but that's for time to tell.


Oh as for Yoh and Anna, I think they went away to protect Hana, that's why they left Amidamaru, so theire son can be safe.

Yes, I know...it looked not very original..but we know it's awesome!
hehehe-Yes, Hana-kun is unique kind of main character...I hadn't seen so many like him- I mean, usually when a main character is so rude and goofy as Haha is, mangakas put the fact he's kind...but Imo...Hana is more into the same kind of sickness Hao was!

Yes, I thought Yohanne would never be at Ren's height, but -like I said- now that SKF is starting to take its own course slowly, it isn't that predictable
