I don't want to throw a cat amongst the pigeons but a bizarre thought crossed my mind today and I thought I would share it. Doesn't Madara look an awful lot like Nagato?
I don't know if its lazy character drawing but the old man Madara has an uncanny resemblance to Nagato almost to the extent of there being some kind of familial relationship.
It is just a thought for now but does anyone think it is possible that Madara could be Nagato's father or even grandfather. We saw some panels of Nagato's parents back when Nagato failed to TnJ Naruto with some flashbacks. The two parents looked pretty nondescript and Madara definitely wasn't one of them.
Later it was revealed that Nagato was an Uzumaki. It was also revealed that in order to obtain the Rinnegan one must have dna from both lines born of the Sot6P. Uchiha it has been revealed are descended from one son of the Sot6P and Senju from the other. Now we have also learnt that the Uzumaki are a branch family of the Senju. This leaves me to wonder where Nagato is supposed to have gotten the genetic markers in order to obtain the Rinnegan from the other son of the Sot6P.
Looking at Nagato in his shrivelled form and Madara in his old man state I'm wondering if Madara briefly settled down with a nice Uzumaki girl. He was wandering the Ninja world for quite some time with not a lot to do after all. What if Madara is Nagato's father or grandfather? THe guy we saw killed in Nagato's flashback could have been a random rain village man who had become Nagato's step-father or perhaps could even be Madara's useless Sharingan-less son (I can't be sure of specifics yet).
I've been wondering how it would be explained that Nagato managed to obtain the Rinnegan with just half the necessary DNA. Then the final panel of 601 makes me think the two might be related. I'm not writing this to troll - I can't quite believe Kishi would pull this kind of a stunt myself - but the pieces could fit together and more to the point it could explain why Nagato didn't tell Naruto about Madara's plans. He was presumably never experimented on as a child since he would have remembered this as being noteworthy for Naruto / Jiraiya. He might not have known who his father or grandfather were though. Madara might have only learned the secret of the Rinnegan from following his offspring (although not intervening to protect them!) and tracing the family trees. Just an idea stitched together with loose but significant clues to the Rinnegan and an uncanny likeness between two significant characters. Not even sure if I believe it myself. Any reasons why it couldn't work (except that its just too corny to believe which I already get) would be appreciated.
Edit - Another thing about this sort of connection is that it would create opportunities to develop some of the Uzumaki background that has been hinted at but not fully explored. Kishi has been trying for a while to bring up the story of the Uzumaki, shoehorning in the revelations that Nagato and Karin are distant cousins or Naruto and even providing us with a picture of the old clan. It wouldn't surprise me if the only way to stop Madara was with one of those famed Uzumaki sealing techniques.
On the flip side it would be a nice touch to make Madara out to not only be the worst brother and teacher in the world but also the lousiest father ("It would appear that little brat Nagato managed to grow"). Manipulating and exploiting his own son to open a pathway for him back into the land of the living. Kishi could even incorporate the worst manga conversation in history where Naruto says to Madara "you twisted Obito into killing my parents" to which Madara could reply "yeah well you killed my son, guess you can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs" or something to that extent. Maybe I'm taking this a bit too far now.. I'll shut up.
The various pieces
Anyway - this is all just a theory of how Madara fits together with Nagato. Somehow these two are connected and I'm pretty sure that if Madara isn't the father of Nagato then he has at least used his own DNA to use Nagato as a guinea pig in his development of the Rinnegan. As before any thoughts appreciated.
Edit no 2
Is there any chance that Obito knew about the bonds controlling the jinchuuriki's control over the bijuu because Madara had also done the same thing with Nagato's mother. We don't really know much about the Rinnegan and its relation to the Gedo Mazo (body of the ten tails / juubi). Could it be possible that Madara (having copied some of what he had learned about the Uzumaki as Jinchuuriki from the example of Mito) trapped the juubi in Nagato as a baby so making Nagato a prototype Jinchuuriki?
