I think there are a few things that need to be cleared up first; mainly - which forms of Nagato & Tobi you're currently discussing - Are you referring to Edo-Nagato vs. Tobi (Rinnegan) or Nagato VS. Tobi (Pre-Rinnegan)? This can fundamentally impact the outcome of their respective matches. Also, whenever it comes to Anime/Manga, it's always best not to perceive certain occurrences by how things occur within the real world - I think at this point it's pretty safe to assume that Kishimoto doesn't do a detailed analysis concerning the mechanics of multidimensional gravity while coming up with the logic behind Shinra Tensei or Chibaku Tensei - it's all fictional, so it doesn't need to follow the rules imposed by reality.

when anime/manga disregard natural laws it is merely limiting factors this instance however is not a limiting factor but a determining factor its alot like his idea of lightning paralizing C4 he institutes certain laws from reality in order to create a more interestin battle i think that if he were to put the two against eachother he would consider that in order to make the fight more interesting. (however you are right i should have specified) My main point is if given the option i dont know why kishi would change the fact that gravity would effect him as it would do nothing to the story but enhance the thrill of that particular battle i would consider it much like the chakra nature matchups that are so common in naruto

You're right - there are instances where he allows Natural Laws to apply to the particular battle, and others where he doesn't. The biggest disadvantage in comparing the two is that they've never fought at all - so everything is largely speculation - we can't say for sure whether or not Kishimoto would stick with the laws as they relate to gravity, or simply dismiss them.

However, although this is just my theory, I do believe that the Deva Path (which manipulates gravitational forces) would have a good chance against Tobi - at least in terms of stopping him from using his S/T Technique. This could be accomplished via the Deva Path's Banshō Ten'in/Universal Pull Technique - while Tobi's S/T Technique is relatively impressive, it appears to be a relatively slow ability, and he takes longer to draw himself into the dimension than it does other people he absorbs. Banshō Ten'in on the other hand, is relatively quick on the uptake, and when timed properly, the Deva Path could potentially pull Tobi out of the dimension before he can completely disappear. Of course, I'm not expert on Nagato or Tobi's Techniques, so I might've made a mistake in this assumption - if I have, I'm more than open to further explanations.

I think you bring up another good point even if Nagato couldn't hit Tobi in the kamui dimension he would be able to stop him from teleporting however Tobi could still go intangible which would make him impossible to hit without proper timing and I did think to myself about the battle never happening and such but I would say it would make far greater sense for him to include it as a sort of chakra nature superiority rather than exclude it all together

Deva path did have some interesting push and pull physics. You do bring a good point to the table. The thing is, I can't give this fight to both of them. I am torn. At one hand, you have Nagato with fully functioning 6 paths, on the other hand, you have Tobi that manipulates space time Jutso effortlessly. Since this isn't pein anymore, there is no one to revive, like he did with the six bodies. If he dies, he can't revive himself. Chibaku Tensi is a very powerful technique, but look what it did to him.

On the other hand, Tobi seems to have both the Sharingen and Rinnegan. According to Madara, a pair is needed, so I guess we can count out this eye functioning properly. But his Sharingen seems to be his advantage to detect Nagato's movement. He call simply slip through over and over again to tire him out and then attack.

Again, both sides have positives and negatives. I'll say, it's a 50/50 battle.

Yeah, a large portion of the battle would be focused solely on executing the right technique at the perfect time. It'd be pretty interesting though, to see how such a battle would play out. I'd rather it be fought with Nagato [Invasion of Konoha] Vs. Tobi [Pre-Rinnegan] rather than Edo-Nagato Vs. Tobi [Rinnegan] - simply because the latter has become extremely powerful as of the current arc, with his control over former hosts of tailed beasts and the Gedo Mazo.

true with the tailed beasts it would be increadibly difficult but at the same time theres no guarentee he could use them as pain had some control over Gedo aswell i think control lies in the rinnegan so Gedo mazo would be neutralized. I think it is relatively safe to assume that if the two faught Kishi would include the gravity factor, he frequently feels the need to explain semi complex facts that most people would take for granted. If this feature was part of the battle then pain would surely be able to take Tobi.

well i should have specified Pain not nagato but either way i dont see how tobi would survive chibaku tensei since he would be inexplicably drawn to the center and crushed either A. by the gravity itself or B. from the debris from the gravity after the 10 minutes in the kamui dimension was up.

I think his time/space manipulation defies gravity, since he is able to bend both.

his S/T works by teleporting his body to the kamui dimension so he is inangible to all of the three dimensional attacks and forces however gravity isnt bound to our three dimensions while it may originate in them it is multidimensional and has access to all possible dimensions. Of the 4 forces (strong nuclear, weak nuclear, electromagnetic, and gravitational) gravity is the only one with access to other dimensions and is theorized to be even stronger in other dimensions so it would most definitely effect the kamui dimmension should the multidimentional nature of gravity be included in a battle.(which i already explained why it should be)

what im saying is that kishi will only remove limiting factors so that the series is interesting he keeps chakra nature superiorities in the series so that battles are interesting i would think of this as a sort of chakra nature advantage

That's another good point (in reference to Nagato/Pain also having some sort of control over the Gedo Mazo). I can't say it with 100% accuracy, but in keeping with your predictions, Kishimoto might just include some fragments of the gravity factor, and then supplement that with whatever he comes up with - if the gravity factor does give Nagato/Pain and edge over Tobi, It'd be safe to assume that Kishimoto would come up with some way for Tobi to get around that, through which he'd come up with his own 'theory' for - otherwise the battle might be too easy on Pain's part, if he can simply stop Tobi's S/T Technique cold in its tracks.

your probably right but with things sitting how they are and with no inferrance of new tech's on obito's behalf it would be safe to say nagato would win relatively easily (once again assuming that nothing would change based on what we have been presented

That's also true.
