why do you care if people do or do not
The reason im doing this is because we as a society either are interested in what is going on in the world and want to get involved and there are others that just aren't interested. So I'm just curious as to their backstory to why they vote or don't vote

+rep very well stated. But people don't understand this until it starts to actually affect them, by then it will be too late.
Of course! The reason most countries who are supposed to be democratic end up falling into states where there's actually little civilian action and voice in government is because not enough people take an active interest in the countries politics! The U.S. for example has a voting rate of those who are legal to vote sitting at approximately 40%! (That's really, really awful.) Therefore, it is the informed citizen's duty to participate in Democracy!

I don't vote because elections are rigged, and our votes make almost no difference in who actually becomes president, and even if they did, it doesn't make a difference who's president anyways, the country is going to suck no matter which a-hole is pretending to run it. The biggest reason I don't vote though, is that I really just don't care.

No I don't bother. Wanna know why? Because New York's gonna go to Obama anyways, so what's the point? Hell, New York barely managed to maintain a positive increase in population in the last census count, and people in my state wonder why everyone flees New York when we continuosly reelect the same corrupt Democrats time and time again

Everyone in my state will always vote for anyone with a D next to their name, even if they pay off *** abuse victims for their friends with taxpayer money (Sheldon Silver, speaker of the New York state Assembly)

Of course what pisses me off the most is that Kirsten Gilibrand (my senator) is ahead in the polls by 35%, and guess what? She supported SOPA when it was first introduced, and she would vote for it tomorrow if she had the chance to. And there's absolutely nothing I can do about it even though she represents me

In Australia you have to, you don't get a choice. If you don't vote you get a fine.

No, I don't follow politics, and I don't believe I'll start anytime soon. So I knownothing about the people up for election and since I don't know what they're about so I don't think it would be right for me to vote. I was forced to vote in the last presidential election though..

The pessimism here is making me shake my head so much. If you don't vote, you have no right to say anything about the country "sucks". You didn't speak up through the only way that they can ever hear you. By voting. The amount of freedom being taken for granted here is ridiculous.

Of course I vote!
If you don't use the means democracy has provided to help you voice out your opinions you are not supporting democracy itself and you give up on your own rights.
Not voting in the elections is like you don't care about what happens to your country and your life...prety stupid if you ask me...

I am obligated to vote every time there is some sort of election - if I don't and I have no good reason to not vote (for example if you can proof you were sick on the election day or in another country with no way to arrive back on time, then it's not a problem if you can't vote) then I have to pay a fine

Wow, being forced to have an input. That sort of sucks.

I can't vote yet since I'm only 17 and you have to be 18. Will I vote? I doubt it, unless I really want a certain someone to win.

I guess if you have no opinion towards any of the topics such as foreign policy, education, immigration, etc. then there is no point in voting. But i wann ask, why don't you think that theres any point in voting?
In voting of course
