Does Gaara posses a Kekkei Genkai (Magnet Release maybe?) like his father?

I always wondered this, despite Shukaku being ripped from him, he's still able to control Sand and it protects him automatically which I thought was abilities granted to him from his Tailed Beast, to manipulate Sand. His father displayed that he had Kekkei Genkai; Magnet Release so would that mean Gaara also possess the same ability for Sand and now Gold Dust?

I never really understood it either. It just seems like a forced plot idea for Gaara to keep his powers.
