any theory about how madara "ESCAPED DEATH" ?

i can't get it, i thought that he was speaking about his fight with hashirama but it's wrong because he was able to awaken the rinnegan right after that fight and he should be fine at that time. could it be that he escaped death by awakening the rinnegan and becoming the ruler over life and death ? any idea.. ?

in the last chapter we saw that madara had only one eye...my theory: madara died in the fight because when kabuto summed him with edo he was the same like in his prime( and to revive him kabuto had to get some of his cells-i think- but in the last chapter we saw im old also in the last chapter madara said that you can not simply get out of this place- so how could kabuto find him down there, and if he awaken the rinnegan, why again sharingan? and only one?)
i kinda think that the old madara down there is madaras brother Izuna
so i dont think he escaped death, i think je actualy died

if the old man was izuna, edo madara couldn't acknowledge obito like he did in the last chapter, no he was madara who saved madara, kabuto said that the edo of madara was special
