Reason why madara didn't achieve the eye moon plan during his life time

i was always asking why didn't madara achieve the eye moon plan right after awaking his rennigan, and the last chapter revealed the reason. it's simply because there was no Gedo mazo in that time and here are the proofs

the flower in top of the statu is not open and obito would be terrified if he saw gedo mazo but he didn't.
and compare that to this

the flower is opened and gedo mazo is there and ready to seal bijous.
and that's why akatsuki was forced to wait until gedo mazo appears.

in the last chapter madara said that he "escaped death" i can't figure out what he meant yet but i don't think that was because his fight with hashirama, i assume that was what it take to live that long
