Define Evil...The word evil gets thrown around too lightly in Naruto. In a world that will always have hatred no matter what, evident through wars and civil disputes within villages, this fate is inevitable. Madara Uchiha foresaw the fate of his Clan, they didn't listen, then realized what Madara was trying to tell them, now look at them, wiped out. He tried to save them but they wouldn't listen to him.

He wants peace, albeit it isn't the form most of you would like. He is not this "evil" person people perceive for some unknown notion, it was not by his hand that he was revived by Kabuto.. Understand that not everyone shares the same point of view, and not everyone will say, 'Yay unity! whoo hoo!, let's join hands hug!" You see peace cannot be obtained Naruto's way, he is far too Naive to the real world. Obito was the same way, foolish and naive, but soon came to realize that the world wasn't all Skittles and Daisies after all. Infinite Tsukuyomi is the closest thing to "true" peace you will ever see. Ponder that.

well the only reason that makes him evil is if he stole his brothers eyes, cause itachi said he stolen them by force, and the uchiha said so to. but its hard to prove

He claims about stopping war , yet causes a bigger one.

He wants world Domination

He is selfish

He has killed Many

And shall I keep going?

The point of the Series is to do something about that hatred that always exists. That is one of the themes of the series, Hatred can be stopped if people tried.

oooh, Madara is a special type of villain: he is an anti-villain: a villain with some redeemable qualities.

what makes him evil is the fact that he believes mental slavery is a good way to solve world's problems, he is trying to enforce this idea and his plan upon people using brute force and mind you those people are fighting against him. nobody said: yeah, Madara let's do as you say!
that's like beating up someone to make them do what you want, even though the very act that you had to beat them means that they do not want in it.

he is a villain because of some 'evil' qualities his character has: he believes brute force is an absolute quality, he understands and respects ONLY victory and detests defeat, he has shown misanthropic behaviors when proclaiming that weak people are ugly or even his entire plan is just as bad and miserly.
the truth is that defeat is a valuable experience in life: it can reveal weaknesses and help you decide how to carry on. as the song says 'you gotta lose to learn how to win'. creating a system which in any way rejects defeat or weakness is just immature. building a value system upon such premise (defeat is useless) is 'evil'. it's also a shortcut to constant failure.

but he has some redeemable qualities, he is a flawed character meaning that his above belief system comes from the inability to process his own failures and weaknesses during his lifetime. it's not the result of an all powerful person who never saw defeat or humiliation. quite the contrary.
now, as a perfect and unstoppable shinobi he still remains 'weak' in terms of character. his flaws act as his more 'heroic' qualities.

well, IMHO at least :)

Good point +rep, hmm I think his motives aren't evil, but the way he's fulfilling them is twisted

Well Madara isn't pure evil. His true goal is world peace at the end of the day. He is just following his ancestors path to that peace. Even though Madara says he wants peace through love...
