i think shino wins, shikamaru is a smart strategist but shino is also a cautious fighter, i say shino wins hig difficulty, your thoughts ?

I agree i thought shino was the one of the strongest at the chunnin exams and id say he wins mid-high diff because shikamaru could not calculate where all of his bugs are it would just be too difficult for him

Shino takes this, even with his strategies he can't hide or run and shadow possesion is useless unless he makes the first move, in which case he could shadow strangle and finish.

if you rationalize it and use logic to try to decide who'd win in a fight Shino can not only beat Shikamaru but a lot of ninjas who are portrayed to be stronger than he is.

Shino wins mid difficulty because I believe this is a bad match up for Shikamaru. Shino's bugs would overwhelm Shikamaru and I don't see how Shikamaru can avoid them when Tobi had to use intangibility to do so. Shikamaru could use the shadows that the bugs create to catch Shino though so he does have a decent chance but nevertheless, even if Shino gets trapped, his bugs can finish Shikamaru off and drain his tiny chakra reserves.

It is impossible for Kishi to rank powers properly with this many abilities and characters. Going by abilities, Shino is better than Shikamaru, as well as a lot of other ninjas. But I don't think Kishi meant for that to happen, since he clearly has Shikamaru ranked higher based on his story and what has actually occurred in the manga. Shikamaru has been involved in big time fights and won thus far himself or with his ino-shika-cho team against Hidan, Kinkaku using 9 tails chakra, and Asuma. He even got to confront Tobi and put him in Kage mane no jutsu. Meanwhile Shino has been fighting White Zetsus the entire war. Going back further, Shikamaru was the leader of the Leaf 5 at the last arc of Part One, meanwhile Shino was left out of that arc completely. It is obvious that if Shino and Shikamaru were to fight in an episode of Kishi's naruto, Shikamaru would win. Even though if you really thought about their abilities and how it would play out in a fight, it would happen exactly like you said and Shino would win.

I get what you are saying but I can't say I agree with your logic although it is sound. Going by your logic, wouldn't Tenten be stronger than Neji since Tenten killed two of Kakuzu's hearts while Neji killed some Zetsu clones while being saved by Hinata? I could think of some more examples for you but I need not bother.
