We all know that the strongest member of akatsuki is either: Tobi, Nagato or Itachi (no flaming with that, it isn't the point).

Now, with those three out, who do YOU believe is the next candidate for strongest akatsuki? Personally I think it's between Kakuzu, Kisame and Sasori. In the overall fight, I find that Kakuzu (with extreme battle experience and vast array on ninjutsu[which is considered to be some of the strongest]), would be able to beat sasori, whereas sasori can beat kisame and ultimately Kisame beats kakuzu. Here is why:

Kisame has very long range type attacks, but sasori's range is even larger. With this, it would be futile for either of them to attack at a far range. Furthermore, the iron sand can defend him from almost any attack and since he has a puppet body, by shielding himself with other puppets, the giant water bullet would most likely prove inefective. Furthermore, if Kisame uses the giant water globe, this leaves sasori with an easy way to secrete poison. Additionally, magnetic properties aren't affected by water, so the iron sand can still work. Overall: Sasori wins

Kakuzu has 5 lives. He has massive fire scale attacks which can burn puppets quite easily. And against the 4 masks and kakuzu, not even the iron sand could keep up (which IMO is the only way for sasori to fight back). 100 puppets would probably die instantly to the fire storm or wind storm or even a combination of both. So in the end: Kakuzu wins

Kisame has a massive advantage in the water against kakuzu. With the water globe, I believe that kakuzu would stand no chance against the shark man. If he uses lighting release, he will electrocute himself and kisame, which doesn't really help much. Giant water shark Bullet also helps with taking him out. Overall: Kisame wins.

So all three are amazing. Who wins in the end? :D

My man Sasori, his feats are amazing, Iron Sand get's him over the top, and he's a pretty bad match up for most of the Akatsuki.

His poison is pretty OP if you ask me.

styles make the match as u put it in ur writings . so let just say if they didnt fight each other and u only could choose one to go out alone in the ninja world. who would u choose, now thats the real question.

Orochimaru, to be a smarta**. But personally, I think Kakuzu is the strongest. Sasori's puppets are good, but Kakuzu's range and spread make him effective against the 100-puppet jutsu.

I'm not sure, kinda hard to tell for me. Although I find it ironic for some kid (back then) who defeated the 3rd Kazekage (considered as the strongest Kazekage, although I don't know why he wasn't summoned as an Edo) and made a puppet out of him while he's still alive, destroyed villages and attacked countries was defeated by a strength type medic ninja and an old puppet master.

Sasori > Kisame

Well, this one is in fact very obvious. Kisame's attacks are full frontal, and his defense solely depends on his massive chakra giving him the ability to heal. However, Sasori is the perfect foil for this. He will easily scratch Kisame, and seeing as how his poison entirely disrupts chakra flow, Kisame will be unable to heal himself. Sasori easily takes this one, he probably wouldn't even get out of Hiruko.

Sasori > Kakuzu

This one is a lot close than the previous one, but it is still the case I believe. Sasori's Iron sand is the key here. It provides incredible defense as well as incredible offense. It's defensive capabilities should be higher than possibly even Gaara's sand, seeing as how the Iron Sand is being held together by magnetism as well as chakra. It's defensive capabilities should certainly be enough to defend Sasori from Kakuzu's attacks. On the other hand, it's offensive capabilities are massive as well.

This jutsu alone could certainly take out a heart, if not more than one. Also the speed of the sand is great, able to build enough momentum to break through the walls of the cave. Kakuzu's hearts will have tons of trouble dealing with it. Thus, Kakuzu will almost always be on the defensive against this puppet. He is sure to lose more puppets as the battle moves on, until he is left with his main body, mostly due to his hardening technique. But even this has it's weakness. Sasori could use his iron sand to catch and fully encompass Kakuzu. This allows him access to Kakuzu's weak spots, namely, eyes, nose, and mouth. Poisoned sand getting into these is equivalent to Kakuzu dying.

Even if Kakuzu somehow manages to destroy the 3rd Kazekage puppet (unlikely), he still has a major chance of losing. The 3rd will take out at LEAST 2 hearts, but that is worst case, and I don't see it getting to that. I see Kakuzu losing against the 3rd Kazekage puppet. Regardless, so then it would be 3 hearts against 100 puppets and Sasori's puppet body. The attacks of the hearts can certainly take out many puppets, but the sheer amount is overwhelming. They will be attacked from all sides, above, behind, left, right, forwards. If Kakuzu catches 20 puppets with his threads, another 20 come in and cut those threads. If Ino-Shika-Cho could avoid the majority of Kakuzu's attacks, so can many of Sasori's puppets. The sheer amount will result in the rest of Kakuzu's bodies being taken down, except for possible the main body (skin hardening). But even then, his chances aren't great. Sasori has poison gas, which can also end Kakuzu. And there's also the great possibility that out of the 100 human puppets Sasori has, at least 1 of them has raiton attacks, and that would end Kakuzu as well.

So overall, I give Sasori the upper edge. Mainly due to the 3rd Kazekage puppet.

BONUS! Sasori > Itachi?

The result of this battle depends very much on one detail: whether Sasori can be affected by genjutsu or not.

Sasori knows his weak spot, and against a powerful opponent like Itachi, he would defend it. He openly showed it against Chiyo and Sakura because he believed them to be entirely inferior to him. He's smart enough not to make that mistake against Itachi. All he needs really is some clothing placed in front of it anyways. That is defense enough. And Itachi would never spam Amaterasu on Sasori's puppets, there are too many and Itachi would die very quickly if he does so.

Susanoo is pretty much a death trap for Itachi. Due to it's very limited mobility, Itachi would be unable to avoid poison gas. And he has to breath eventually, his ability to hold his breath would very likely not outlast the gas. So the only way to avoid the gas is to not use Susanoo, but then he faces the even bigger problem of Sasori's puppets, which Itachi would not be able to avoid. A scratch does it for him. At the worst, Sasori's puppets would certainly outlast Itachi if Itachi is forced to keep up Susanoo. While Itachi has Susanoo up as well, Sasori can stay out of range of Itachi's sword.

So after considering those two scenario's, Sasori can clearly be seen to have the upper hand. The problem now is genjutsu.

Genjutsu disrupts the chakra flow of a character. So theoretically, it SHOULD affect Sasori. But there's also the case that Genjutsu affects the chakra flow of a character's BRAIN, which Sasori DOESN'T have. However, the arguement can be made that those chakra functions now take place in Sasori's heart, so genjutsu would still affect it. But then there's the fact that Sasori has no real EYES, they're just there for show really. So would ocular genjutsu really work on him? It's a similar question to whether genjutsu would work on a Hyuuga who's eyes are closed and is using the Byakugan through his/her eyelids. There is a barrier between direct eye contact, and in the case of Sasori, there technically IS no eye contact, because one party doesn't have real eyes.

Basically, if Sasori is immune to genjutsu, he wins this. If he ISN'T, the battle gets a lot more interesting. I would still lean towards Sasori, but it's a lot closer.

Not to be a band wagoner but this guy just saved me an hour and a half of typing. I agree with 90% of what he said. You definitively undermined sasori against Kakazu though. Kakazu gets his power from numbers and against an opponent who does the same thing makes it much more interesting. Plus I don't think the Puppets are just going to sit in the way of such attacks after all they don't abide by laws of gravity, they can go anywhere making them adverse targets. What if he gets poisoned when all his hearts are still in him?
If they are all interconnected then they all get poisoned and will all suffer the same fate.

I'm not sure of how the Itachi one would go, that Totsuka blade could cause some serious problems absorbing multiple puppets and the iron sand causing quite a bit a problems especially since the iron sand is a limited amount (If it can absorb nonliving things and since the puppets are human puppets they do count).
Needless to say they would all be an awesome fight but who knows!
Maybe each one would have their own awesome way of defeating their opponents!

The Sword of Totsuka seals souls, it cannot seal nonliving things. Neither puppets nor sand can be sealed.
