i would have bought that if Obito was as respectful to his enemies and opponents as Nagato was. so, unless (and it's not that likely imho) sb is genjutsuing him or sth like that, he is acting out and on his own free will.

We had an entire chapter dedicated to showing us more about Obito's past, situation and thoughts. Wouldn't that be wasted if someone was controlling him?

MANIPULATING, on the other hand, with words I mean and not some jutsu or something like that, is credible. Given that Obito and Madara know each other, I say Madara is behind much of Obito's current powers and character.
