Why the Laxus/Mystogan hype?

I just rewatched the Phantom arc, and it was said that Fairy Tail was getting big because of Laxus and Mystogan. Before Gildarts' first appearance, everyone was talking about how Laxus and Mystogan were the strongest.

What I'm confused about is: Why was Gildarts never mentioned even though he has been the strongest all this time?

Laxus did mention him as "The old geezer", he didn't seem to think Gildarts was that strong, were Laxus and Mystogan always stronger? Don't think so... :shrug:

It's because Gildarts was gone so long he wasn't considered an active member. Mystogan and Laxus were.

As much as i wanna say Mystogan rules all, no he isn't. He's in top 10 but Zeref rules all.

It's because Gildarts was gone so long he wasn't considered an active member. Mystogan and Laxus were.

I can't consider Mystogan very active either, he just does missions and knocks the entire guild out whenever he reports back.

read the manga..gildarts is mentioned..the reason he is not mentioned in the anime is because ft was supposed to end after that arc..

The only manga I read is Naruto, but I know what happens right now in the manga with the grand magic games. I prefer anime over manga, always.

Gildarts takes longer missions. So he was never home much. I guess they never included him for that reason.
