This is a nice match up but can Gai use gates? If so how many gates do you think he had in his youth. Maybe five just like Lee? Kakashi was already a jounin but he was still pretty young and inexperienced. Gaara, despite being a genin, made jounin level ninjas fear him so I believe he is stronger than most jounin level ninjas. In that sense I don't see him losing to either Kakashi or Gai individually. As a matter of fact, neither of the Eternal Rivals will manage to put up a fight because of Gaara's strong stamina and haxed defence.

Kakashi's limit should be one chidori because the sharingan would drain him worse than Sasuke. If Gai can use gates, I see them winning. If not then Gaara wins. If we go by hype, both Kakashi and Gai are low jounin level ninjas. At the end of part 1, Gaara was easily a high jounin level ninja in an open field. I also don't know how fast Kakashi and Gai are but they are probably slower than Kimimaro unless Gai uses gates.

I agree with most of this but personally I believe Gaara wins even against 5 gates because he was able to resist/survive reverse lotus using ONLY the amount of sand in his gourd, the forest of dead trees looks to have loose, exposed soil perfect for creating large volumes of sand (most likely easier than the site of Gaara v kimi.)

I don't have a clear opinion on what would happen. I actually would have liked to see the fight/spar between Kakashi and Gai to actually make a clear judgement. Also we don't even have the data book for these two versions of Kakashi and Gai so we don't know if they are fast enough to overwhelm Gaara. I doubt it since I think Kimimaro is more likely to be faster since he has a CS and he is older. If Gai distracts Gaara, Kakashi can use chidori to pierce Gaara's defence which will end up hurting Gaara. If Gaara goes full Shukaku mode, it's over and he crushes them with almost no difficulty. Otherwise I do believe the Eternal Rivals can pull it off with high difficulty although I'm not entirely sure and can't say. This is all speculation from my part.

The Gaara that fought Kimimaro? going with Gaara. Chunin Evams Gaara I'll say he beats Guy but loses to Kakashi if he's not going Shukaku.

If it's Chunin exam Gaara he loses, with Chidori Kakashi had to have some speed on him and we already know Guy is fast, so if would basically be a duplicate of what Sasuke did to Gaara in the exams

Well I think SRA Gaara wins now because TBH, the only reason why kakashi was made a jounin at such a young age compared to the other rookies was because during his days, there was a massive need more skilled ninjas because of ongoing wars. Since there were wars, the Land of Fire gave lots of money to the Leaf Village to spend on military expenditures. For this reason, it was much easier for the likes of Kakashi, Gai and Obito to get promoted. I mean Obito made it to chunin but the likes of Sasuke didn't even though Genma acknowledged Sasuke as a chunin level ninja.

During Naruto and Sasuke's time, there were few wars so less money was spent on the villages. This came straight from Pain, so I am not making ideas up. There were a plentiful number of jounins and chunins already so the standards to achieve that rank was made a lot higher. Bare in mind that early part 1 Naruto and Sasuke were better than likes of Mizuki, Iruka and Demon brothers.

Also Gaara could have easily been promoted in his childhood but people feared him so he was kept at the lowest rank and not allowed to go to the Chunin Exams. He also held back his two elder siblings who were already chunin level skilled during part 1.

Now that my explanation on why rank does not matter has been said. I believe Rock Lee>Gai and Sasuke>Kakashi based on the principle that the new generation will surpass the previous one. CE Gaara beat Lee and Sasuke so SRA Gaara should be able to own them easily individually. Together they might be able to win but since Kakashi and Gai are most likely weaker, they probably can't beat Gaara. As a matter of fact, it would be more fair to pair them up against Gaara's siblings instead.

Fun match OP! Nice way to use the recent chap chars lol, would be cool to see young Kakashi and Gai's fight in the manga too.

I personally think Gai and Kakashi stomp, too lazy to elaborate right now but chidori rips Gaara a new one and Gai is just Gai.

Haha thanks i tried because the flashbacks in the recent chapter were really interesting to me, and I also really wish we had gotten to see at least a hint of Obito and Kakashi's fights with Gai :[
