Yes. Ive seen very creative tobi threads where people have presented manga facts and it links in very well with everything. Those who created obito threads were very simply threads which usually had to do with his physical appearance and thats about it. Maybe as Einstein said "simplicity is genius" was the right move to take. Wouldnt refer to kishi as a genius though

Except that a lot of people thought Obito was too obvious and wasn't possible and thus it had to be someone else.
Kishimoto-sensei had it planned out for a while now; not his fault if people decided that it had to be someone else. Sometimes because something seems too obvious, people don't want to believe it, which makes it a surprise when it does turn out that it was the obvious choice.
