What makes you think that he would have awaken the mangekyos?
More or less my question. Just because we're seeing the potential of Obito's sharingan doesn't mean Obito himself would've even unlocked the powers. Most people are assuming since we're seeing the capabilities of his eyes, that, had he lived long enough to grow up and mature, that he would've unlocked these dormant powers but there's honestly no sure fire way of telling if he would have or wouldn't have done so.
Also, to the people talking about the massacure, what somebody said previously above, without Obito's eye, Tobi wouldn't have attacked the village, or at least he wouldn't have been able to toe off against Minato without the power of his Migration/kamui. That being said, the provocation for the assassination for the Uchihas was: the Village locking them down after Tobi's attack for suspected treason by somebody within the clan. This causing the Uchihas to feel betrayed by the village and thus they decided to plan a coup, at which time the higher ups of Konoha were informed and took measures to prevent civil and international war.
It can be argued that: given the circumstances upon the founding of Konoha when Tobirama made the Konoha's MP with the Uchihas and the suspected eye that was kept on them by the Anbu and the whole Senju Kage liniage deal, that the Uchihas would've planed a coup regardless, but that's not something I believe too highly in. I stick to the previous points I made above about Tobi.
