We know that the real sage of the sixth path divided the ten tails beast power and send it body to the moon.This take a alot of energy for rikudo to do the possess which ended his life eventually.We know that gedo mazo is the body of the tentails beast .
Inorder for madara to bring back gedo mazo back to the earth from space it will require alot of energy and precision and knowledge.The posses will also take a toll on madara since he was could be recovering from hashirama battle or his aging body was not strong enough to survive the process.We knew hiruzen was well known for his jutsu and knowledge but he end up dying to orichimaru because he did not have the chakra level to do other jutsu.As a result he scarfice himself by the death god jutsu to seal the other hokage and orichimaru.This could be similar to madara since he could be old before he die
