Not to mention he was only like five feet away yet had the time to make handsigns and hide in the snake before the blast got to him.
It's absolutely ludicrous. There are many cases where I can't see the logic of the writing at all but this one has to take the cake.
Sasuke's current goals are also iffy to me but that's not plot no jutsu...I may have to create a "Where's the logic?" thread.

Sasuke logic: "My brother gave his life to save that village. I love him so I'll just destroy everything he died to protect.
"The elders were responsible for destroying my clan, I'll destroy everyone in the leaf."
"All the powerful leaf ninja are in a war, instead of going to the leaf to exact my revenge, I will promise to kill my powerful jinchuuriki former best friend first without the slightest thought about losing and not getting the chance to avenge my clan"
The manga just doesn't make sense sometimes, especially when it comes to Sasuke.

Haha, yah sauske's demented which is why he's irrational. He is also imprudent by not thinking about a situation and just hastly wanting to get the job done while being ignorant at the same time. That's definately one of the reasons why sasuke can be the most hated character in the series.
Questions for sasuke: (1) "Your brother saved the leaf, why do you want to destroy it if you love him?" (2) "The elders of konoha were responsible for the massacre, why would you want to harm anyone else especially your best friends?" (3) "Orochimaru was against every uchiha which is why your brother killed him, why did you revive him, in fact why did you go to him in the first place?"

1. its his own path he doesnt have to agree with his brothers choice. 2. They slaughtered EVERYONE including women and children no to mention the elderly who probably had NOTHING to do with what fugaku was planning its the same thing , the ppl deal with the choices of the ppl they choose to lead
