Hey guys, here is my thread on Itachi vs Nagato!! I am going to support both parties before I come down to my decision at the bottom so read carefully
If i miss anything let me know.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright, let's start with Itachi:
Itachi is a member of the uchiha clan. He graduated from the academy at the age of 7, became a chunnin at 10 and finally, became an anbu captain at the age of 17 (only later to join the S-rank Criminal org. Akatsuki). This data only proves how strong Itachi really is, seeing as how no one else in the story (bar kakashi, minato and some others) have statistics like these to back up their credentials
Itachi's Techniques:
Being a member of the uchiha clan, Itachi has the sharingan and after experiencing his best friend Shisui's death, awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan. Itachi was always considered to be one of the most intelligent characters in the series and praised by many to be one of the greatest members of the uchiha to have ever existed. Among his many techniques granted by his sharingan, Itachi was always skilled with genjutsu.
He has access to 2 (maybe 3 if you are counting KA, but I am not, seeing as it was destroyed) very powerful genjutsu techniques:
Tsukiyomi: allows the user to control the time and space of the technique (makes time seem like eternity, when in actual fact, only a couple of seconds have gone by).
AND
Izanami: arguably his strongest technique, this technique allows for itachi to trap his enemies in an infinite genjutsu that can only be broken if the enemy realizes their wrongdoings (or whatever limitations itachi has set, they must accept them) at the cost of losing your vision in that eye.
Ninjutsu: Itachi, again being a member of the uchiha clan, has access to very strong fire style techniques. Furthermore, being paired up with Kisame has also helped him hone in on his water techniques as well (water clone explosion).
However, Itachi's true ninjutsu prowess comes from his MS.
Amaterasu: the enternal black flames that cannot be extinguished no matter what the case, that burns through water and flames themselves.
Susanoo: probably my favourite technique of the entire series, susanoo allows the user to summon a spectral being to basically destroy everything
But, Itachi has access to more than just susanoo, He has the sword of totsuka and the yata's mirror, two legendary items. Yata's mirror is said to deflect any and all attacks, and acts as the ultimate shield. The sword of totsuka has the power to seal anything it pierces into an infinite genjutsu.
So far, Itachi looks pretty impossible to beat, but let's see the opposition
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nagato:
A member of the uzumaki clan, nagato has been bestowed with particularly powerful chakra as well as the rinnengan by Tobi. WARNING: when I refer to nagato, I mean himself, not 6 bodies.
Nagato's powers:
Most of nagato's techniques revolve around his rinnengan.
Summonings: Nagato has summoned incredibly powerful monsters to the battlefield several times, to the extent that they have overwhelmed Jiraiya at some parts of their battle. Furthermore, due to the rinnengan, all their eyes are linked.
ST/BT/CT: The gravity techniques as I like to call them, are probably Nagato's most familiar jutsus. Being able to repel and attract anything to his center of gravity, nagato has almost full control over people's bodies. Furthermore, if necessary, nagato can use ST at extreme levels to destroy huge areas (Leaf Village for example). Then there is Chibaku Tensei. A technique that not even 6-tailed naruto could beat, no, he had to go into his 8 tailed form to break free!! that is one strong technique if u ask me xD
Chakra absorption: Nagato is able to absorb ANYY ninjutsu. If it is made of chakra, nagato can absorb it. Meaning, ninjutsu is almost completely noneffective against Nagato!!
Samsara: ability to revive the dead. Need I say more?
Gedo Mazo and all elemental types: This thing. It scares me more than Jason lol. If I ever had to face this thing in real life... It was able to stand up to Choji's Super Butterfly Bombing technique without so much as flinching, the biggest earth technique displayed in the series (Kitsuchi) had no effect either.
Definitely a technique that isn't destroyed easily.
Side note: Gedo mazo doesn't have the ability to use Juubi.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Effectiveness of both sides:
Here is where the pros and cons come into play.
Itachi:
Pros:
Itachi has access to the second strongest genjutsu: Izanami. Like Jiraiya stated, Pains only weakness was genjutsu. So itachi definitely has an upper hand here.
Susanoo's protective and sealing properties: Definitely a bonus considering seeing as how he can seal Nagato if the opportunity arises as well as defend with Yata.
Cons:
Amaterasu has no effect in Nagato (Shinra Tensei can repel the flames off body, confirmed in manga) as well as any other ninjutsu.
Taijutsu is not in his advantage seeing as how Nagato can split his body into 4 arms. Very hard to fight against that.
Itachi isn't the fastest either, so this battle isn't going to be determined by speed.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nagato:
Pros:
Chakra absorption: as stated above, a key technique in dismantling itachi's wide array of ninjutsu
CT: hard to counter without TBB and rasenshuriken as seen in the manga. I don't believe Itachi has a technique with enough power to stop it. In the end, he would be dragged into the center and would have to stay locked inside of susanoo, virtually pinning him.
Gedo Mazo: Probably Itachi's worst nightmare. Seeing as how this thing doesn't have many weaknesses (none to be seen in the manga this far actually), this thing is a force to be reckoned with.
Cons:
Genjutsu: Definitely a problem, if nagato is caught, it is basically game over.
Yata's Mirror: Possibly the reason why itachi's susanoo is on the higher echelons; it grants him an absolute defense.
Totsuka: One pierce and you're dead basically
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The verdict:
With all things considered, I do have to leave this fight to a draw. Itachi and Nagato have too many unpredictable techniques up their respective sleeves. Itachi has ultimate genjutsu and sealing, while nagato has CT and Gedo Mazo (which basically rips your soul out). In the long run, Itachi could seal gedo mazo (if that possible with totsuka) but get sucked into CT where he basically can't do anything. There's also the fact that susanoo is comprised of chakra, so Nagato could potentially absorb it. Furthermore, both of them use extremely powerful techniques that consume large amounts of chakra. Chibaku Tensei and Susanoo both consume a lot, and that's just naming a few. This could end up being a stall war.
They are both great shinobi, but making a decision is really unlikely here. I think keeping it at a draw is the best thing.
Final Note: If nagato does not have GEDO MAZO, i would vote on itachi winning Extremely high difficulty. But who knows right?
This is my first thread of the kind, so let me know what you guys think
Thanks
