I'm practicing shading with colored pencils. I find it rather difficult. I really would appreciate some tips.

Wow thanks so much for the advice! I was having a hard time figuring out what to shade but this explains pretty well!Try not to shade in all the edges darker. Pick an angle to shade from, and keep it constant. For example, if you darken the left side of his face, don't darken the right side as much, and darken the left side of his clothes as well. For the hair, don't just fill it in. Try drawing line by line in the direction his hair is falling/spiking on/from his head.
I think you did a pretty good job with his hand though. Do shading for every line you see (except his whisker marks, as they would be flat on his face.) The same goes for other things that would be 2D, like a crest on his clothing.
You did a really great Job![]()
nice drawing +rep
Its nice
I've never been great at using colored pencils, but the quality of the colored pencil can also really affect a drawing. So I'm not particularly qualified to give you tips, but I think you did pretty good for your first time trying them out ^_^
The quality of the colored pencils does make a big difference!
