Its an effective way to keep popular searies off the air. They dont have to show them as long as they own the rights no other channel can show it. That way other channels wont get more views cos of Naruto for example. There are tons of popular shows that Disney owns but refuses to show cos they 'suck' in their opinion but they dont want others to show em either.
