Kakasi says "They are one jutsu" meaning Tobi's not really "appearing solid" with one jutsu. and "becoming intangible" with another but that the jutsu is like a "switch" by opening a door so to speak to the other dimension. when he is intangible the door is open, and when solid the door is closed, but when the "switch" is activated what is in the other dimension (recently sent, plot no jutsu keeps ALL items in the other dimension from emerging, like deidra's arm etc.) is flipped and put in the regular dimension.
example, When Kakashi send the gedo to the other dimension with kamui, Tobi merely "flipped the switch" to bring it back.

here we have Naruto launching rasengan while tobi is intangible (i.e. Switch is flipped ON)

and kakashi sends the rasengan to the other dimension....and when its time for tobi to "turn the switch off" so to speak, the rasengan comes with it in the spot where it would have been in the physical realm

so this one jutsu that has to be turned off and on (as stated below) has been solved and now we can finally understand Tobi's S/T jutsu!

I don´t think so, because if we agree on your theory how come we do not see the rasengan itself after tobi made himself solid?
Isn´t it like it was when he suck in explosions from konan as soon as he got solid again he felt the pain.

This is how I interpreted it.

Okay so what I am getting from this is the chapter is the following.
1. Tobi's S/t and ghost mode aren't different jutsu's
2. To make himself "ghost" Tobi basically puts his physical body in his other dimension
3. Whilst his body is in the other dimension attack in the real world can't hit him
4. When Kakashi uses Kumai, it transports the object from the real world to Tobi's dimension where his physical body is
5. Tobi's mask cracked because the kunai that was kumai'ed hit Tobi's physical body in the other dimensiom
6. The rasengan hit because it went to the other dimension then hit Tobi's physical body
7. Back in the Kage arc Tobi said that Kakashi's kumai wouldn't work on him, this makes sense because if Tobi is intangible, then Kakashi would be trying to send Tobi's body to the dimension where is body already exists.

Seem legit?

I see it as this. Tobi can exist on two planes of existence at once (the two dimensions). When he is intangible, his presence is still within "our" dimension but he cannot be touched, and at the same time he is in his other dimension, hidden away from attacks.

I believe that Kakashi figured this out and because they obviously share the same Dimension, waited for the right time, and send the Rasengan at his arm, through the other dimension. @_@... Idk.. sounds better in my head.

When tobi is intangible he has send himself to another dimension, and kakshi's kamui sends the target to another dimension. somehow tobi's dimension and kamui's dimension is the same.
So when tobi makes himself in intangible at the same place as as a target of kamui's in this world, they will be at the same place in the other dimension aswell.

That's why an intagible tobi is hit by a rasengan that has just been warped by kamui.

+Reps as these makes more sense, however, its only a theory. Tobi (Kishi) might have some twist (or something) to the Jutsu. Also, the weakness of Tobi's Space/Time Migration which is 5 Mins. might have some play into it.

Took just 4 years for Kishi to explain this, lmao

what are u talking about

Sakura has explain this during squad 8 againts tobi

You must be registered for see images

that technique can also be used to transport only parts of Tobi's body elsewhere, leaving him visible to opponents but intangible to attack and physical harm

So this must mean the (x,y,z) coordinate in the 'physical' dimension are the same coordinates in the tobi/kakashi dimension - or at least relative? Else how would one explain that kakashi was able to hit tobi in the other dimension without aiming?
