Who is smarter? Sasuke or Shikamaru?

Shikamaru was stupid enough to try and use kage mane on one of the strongest Naruto characters and a bijuu, and openly blindly go to like 7 chunin and sacrifice himself to 'save his team' when he was too weak to do that. I like how you didn't list one positive think Shikamaru pulled off because there isn't anything impressive.

Shikamaru was stated to have the highest IQ of any other shinobi in the Hidden Leaf, I cant remember where but I know it was stated.

Shikamaru has better strategy in the long term and can do pretty well thinking on his feet.

I feel overall tho that Shikamaru is smarter

Sasuke is no slouch though and it would b a good fight, sasuke would win on strength tho not in a battle of wits

Shikamaru doesn't have the life-hacks and mods that Sharingan gives, so he has to actually outsmart people that are stronger than him. Sasuke just has to spam powers GIVEN to him to beat an opponent that's equal or lesser than him. Shikamaru all the way.

Ok. Many of you here are confusing with being a genius and pure skill. Sasuke I can admit Is an intelligent person. BUT when it comes to intellect, Shikamaru wins. I say this because what do we know him for? Do we not know shikamaru for being the smartest? He had the highest scores in the chunin exams. Let alone be known for having the IQ of over 200. When problems occur they come to who? The Nara clan in general. Sasuke is a genius but not in the terms of intellect as shikamaru is known for. Now if there would be a battle between shikamaru and Sasuke. I can say that Sasuke will win in the end because of the abilities he posses(mainly shikamaru can't counter with what we know of him.) But When you say SMARTER... Shikamaru is automatically included in it.

There is tactical smarts, which Shikamaru has in leaps and bounds over Sasuke.

Then there are battle instincts, which Sasuke has over Shikamaru. In terms of intelligence, Shikamaru wins overall, but he lacks the chakra that Sasuke has, he lacks haxxed eyes, and he lacks speed.

You CANNOT win most battles by intelligence alone.

Considering he, up front, confronted Kinkaku and Tobi and attached his shadow to them as they completely ignored him like his shadow wasn't there, he's not so smart. Because that's a pretty retarded move.

Remember in Part 1 where Shikamaru blindly was like "lol we need a sacrifice, ill go buy time gauize" and his master plan ended up almost getting him killed(he did plan on dying) until Asuma saved him. Gee too bad for a genius, he couldn't come up with a good enough plan to pay Asuma back by saving him...

Kiba is faster than Kisame, eh? Chiyo has better taijutsu than Orochimaru? Tenten is faster than Naruto? Hidan is stronger than Sakura? Because that makes sense.

I'd also take this moment to point out, if we are going by DB stats now, Tayuya had a 1 in strength and through brute force broke out of his shadows. Just saiyan. lolol

Regarding Kinkaku, He did succeed. Didn't you understand that he only needed to stop him for a moment for Ino? He just needed him to stay still for a second.

As for tobi, Why was it stupid that he binded him using his shadow? he was saved by the gedo, he didn't ignore him. Just to refresh your memory, take a look at what tobi said.

As for part 1, you do remember he was going against nine oto ninjas trained specifically for this battle. And he did succeed with his mission even though he had his chakra drained from his previous fight with Temari, right? I think he did the best thing possible in that situation. If you don't think so, then what do you think sasuke would've done? he would've been killed on the spot if it weren't for orochimaru's orders!
