Why is there something rather than nothing?

Think before posting.

[EDIT] Can any two things be identical? :| This one can lean either way in my opinion.

Well, we're experiencing "something" right now rather than nothing. Of course, I suppose the answer depends on how you define the word "something".. :| editing with another question.

Good question. However, if there wasn't something, then there would be nothing for you to even think about. xd

Heh xD. It's just, mmm. Never thought about this and I'm somewhat confused. I'd rather not relate this to religion so soon in the thread so I'll hold off a bit.

1. Something is the assumption that while there appears to be nothing, something can be.

2. Identical twins.

Because we are here.If we are not here, from our point of view there would be nothing.
There is only something because it is picked up by our senses.
If you,for example,can't hear,there is no sound.

On a larger basis,in our universe with its set of parameters and constants,it is believed that the Higg's boson provides mass to objects.

most of the time two things are identical when neither thing is willing to be an individual like when two star fish cant choose who to vote for. but when its all said and done you just have to stop and think "yeah maybe i did fart. but i'm still beautiful"

2. Identical twins.
For your second one, identical twins are far apart if you think about it. Different tastes in things (fashion, food, etc.) and their personality is different. Do you really think they have the same amount of cells or the same number of hairs on their head? Their far from "identical"
Nothing is an "empty" something :uruhara:

That's a good way of thinking. I like it.

There can be two things of anything. It will simply take an inexplicable amount of time for the identical thing to come to fruition. For example, put over 100 monkeys in a room with computers in front of them. Eventually, one of these monkeys will produce a perfect manuscript of Hamlet. Assuming they have unlimited time.

I understand where you're coming from. But assume they don't have an unlimited time like in reality. Then the odds of it happening would be on a much smaller scale, something we couldn't even fathom. Now do you think there could be two identical things?

For future reference. That question is relating to things that aren't man made.

It is because even nothing is something something to us. As humans we must define everything in our world. Technically cold doesn't exist, it is just the absence of heat. Darkness doesn't exist either, it is just the absence of light. Our hunger for knowledge can never be sated. As long as we are here, there is no such thing as "nothing" in this world.

As for the second question I say no. The sheer state of increasing entropy in our universe makes it highly unlikely for any two things to be exactly alike, even subatomic molecules.
