Why is Gai still able to fight after opening 7 gates?

At the beginning of the war Gai could barely move after going 7 gates vs kisame. Now after opening 7 he is still going strong against tobi. Can anybody explain this or is it just plot no jutsu?

Its not a matter of having a choice or not.... Probably around a week ago after going 7 he couldn't move and was in extreme pain. There's no way he could train so much that he doesnt get the side effects of opening gates.

Right but it's not like they have a choice or anything. Lee couldn't control the damage that happened to him vs gaara.... Obviously gai has a lot more stamina than part 1 lee but just a few days ago when he opened 7 he couldn't move.

After using the 7th gate, he becomes vulnerable due to the effects. In the 6th gate, he only feels exhaustion.
