We have seen Tobi battle multiple times in this manga. Nearly every time he fights seriously he gets injured. He gets hurt in different ways but are all caused by the same thing...overconfidence.
Tobi vs Minato
Tobi's overconfidence and recklessness is shown here by him proclaiming that they are all doomed and then rushing Minato.
In many battles at the start each person tries to find the other ninja's weakness . The battles that we have seen the use of such tactics are in the Kinkaku and Ginkaku battle, when Kakashi and friends battled Tobi, when Jiraiya battled the six paths of pain and many others.
Torune and Fu vs Tobi
Torune begins his attack on Tobi but Tobi thinks he can just suck him up and it will be all good. Instead his arm is infected and he will have to remove it. Although he does note that Torune and Fu are good when he says it to Danzo, they must not have been good enough for Tobi to take them seriously enough where he could not get hurt.
Konan vs Tobi
Here he even states that he shouldn't have taken Konan lightly and that is after he says"And all I need to do now is capture you. Don't underestimate the eye powers of the Uchiha child!" He is basically gloating about his eye powers showing overconfidence.
Ninjawar
In this war it is quite easy to tell that if it were not for Kabuto's help the war would not be in Tobi's favor. Tobi again was overconfident in the zetsu and his abilities and would end up reviving the Juubi much sooner than he is currently doing. So looking at Tobi's past judgments can give us a good idea how this war will turn out and how it would have turned out if Kabuto did not help.
