[Discussion] Do you think fighting is necessary?

Ok guys what if someone comes up to you and pushes/shoves and talks crap to you what would you do fight or walk away?

Then you should fight, especially if people are looking. That way people will at least know you will defend yourself if provoked.

I don't think girls find that cool...unless he's like a huge jerk and deserves it

Well if somebody trying to put you in the hospital or something then you should fight cause your in danger. When its something stupid or pointless, theres no point in fighting.

no its not, a situation in which you need to fight only happens if someone else provokes a fight of some kind, if he didnt do that in the first place ...
and we never fought in school, in my 12 years of school only 1 minor fight broke out

Unless my life or someone else's is in trouble, I say fighting is amongst the dullest things there are, but I would fight to protect, though I'd also be clear on what I'm protecting, not for some petty reasons as someone insulting what shirt I wear.
Actually, if there's trouble I know I can get out of by running(provided I'm the only one in trouble), like this guy at 02:26, he knows what's up, so he's cleverly escaping from it: Anime is 'To aru Majutsu no Index'

Despite my usual egalitarianism, i am actually the kind of person who doesn't mind violence. I dont think that is always used appropriate, but i dont have the complete fear and rejection of violence that i see a lot of other people have.

To me violence is just an extension of our normal emotional responses, where we take what we believe and take it too far. For instance i might hate a person, and i can express that in many ways, hitting them is one, gossiping is another. Violence isnt any better than the alternatives, but it is an expected alternative in my eyes.

Physical fighting should always be the last resort for things. I mean punching a fist at someone is only going to bring anger and bitterness towards you either resulting in a further punch up or a bullied victim.

Having control over your emotions just proves how strong willed you are. Punching someone shows how easily butthurt you get 97% of the time in a schoolyard.


Fighting in war is generally started when beliefs are crossed or pride is hurt. Which could mean invading land, spreading something (religion, nationalism, communism etc), taking hostages etc. just to have a point over the opposing enemy.

It really depends. Like if someone broke into my house at night they'd have no idea what they just walked into. On the other hand, fighting really doesn't happen all that much. I'd bet that no one who's posted so far in this thread has ever been in a real fight...and if they had it wasn't anytime recently. Violence doesn't exist in the real world too much.

However, there will be some brutality if I see certain individuals being hurt or abused. In that case, I will step in, but it won't be a fight...just a beating. Most people choose not to start anything with me though seeing as how most are real short. That being said, it's always the really short ones that want to fight for some reason: short-man's complex.
