This is quite interesting. If the sage was indeed an Uzumaki that would explain a shit load of things. Actually it would explain also why the Uzumaki are related to both the Senju and the Sage and yet the Senju and the Uchiha are closely related to the Sage. It's simple. If he was an Uzumaki the Uzumaki's would share their ancestors with the Rikudo yet would not be his descendants, making the Uchiha and Senju the closest descendants and yet related to the Uzumaki. It would also explain why Nagato was able to attain the Rinnegan It evolved naturally in Rikudo so if he was an Uzumaki it could evolve naturally again.
