i haven't watched the episode yet but in the manga shikamaru says defeated the second hokage

It says defeated in the manga. Furthermore, when they say defeated in the manga, i'm assuming it was at the time of the assassination attempt as thats the only time its been confirmed they fought tobirama.

No, They did kill the 2nd Hokage. Remember Danzo's flashback when he was with the 2nd and Sarutobi and some others and they were being hunted down.

The 2nd volunteered to sacrifice himself and he said they were being hunted by the Kinkaku Unit. They killed him

The KINKAKU Unit was hunting down the 2nd hokage and his squad. The 2nd volunteered to be a decoy and died.
