Hidan is a very underrated character and can beat a lot of characters without knowledge. He managed to hold his own against both Shikamaru and Asuma at the same time and managed to kill Asuma even after Shikamaru figured out Hidan's secret.

I'd say Hidan is an elite jounin level ninja and can potentially kill someone even stronger without knowledge.
