We all know that Haku is very...Different in how he looks. Everybody seemed to think it was a girl before he said he was a guy. And some people STILL refuse to believe hes a guy!xd

But anyways, we see Haku with Zabuza. And we see their true relationship at their deaths. They truely loved each other, but not in a BF/GF sort lf way, but a family sort of way. Here we have Zabuza, the first real villain in the series. OFC you're gonna want to make him a freakin' badass. Kishi probably intended Haku to be a girl at first, but realized that people could interpret their relationship in a BF/GF sort of way. And when you see Zabuza loving someone like that, it makes him look weak. But having Haku as a boy, but keeping that younger sister look, people can easily see it as a family sort of bond which is much stronger than just a simple crush. This family bond is very apparent in the Naruto series, we can see it everywhere. Bonds with your village, with your clan, etc. So Kishi almost foreshadows how much of a bond a person can have with someone or something :D

Yea so thats my 'theory' (if you can even call it that) for why I think Haku is portrayed as a male. This has been on my mind last night, and I definitely explained it better in my head but this'll have to do I guess

I might be just completely wrong, and Kishi just put Haku as a guy to troll everyone but still...
Hope you enjoy!

I think you have a point there. Never thought of that.

My opinion was always that Zabuza told Haku to dress like a girl for spying. People probably trust some pretty, innocent looking young girl more, than some boy. I think they played that game alot. I also believe Haku had to do it because he could. He just looks alot like a girl so they took advantage of that for assasination.

As for their relationship, I think he saw Haku as his partner/brother alot more than his child. At least he seemed to have respected him alot and believed in him. Their ending was well-done in the story and has bound me forever to Naruto.

I think Kishimoto-sensei just intended Haku to be a bishounen. If you do some research on the Japanese culture (which wouldn't hurt sometimes), you'll discover that there are quite a lot of men who are bishounen, which means that they are exceptionally beautiful. They have an androgyn look, that's all.
So I believe Kishimoto-sensei portrayed Haku as a bishounen

I didn't even think Haku was that pretty as a girl... Am I the only one?
Zabuza is old enough to be his dad U_U even if he was a girl nobody would think of that..and why dose it even matters..?
Age difference is not a factor in a lot of anime/manga/shows in general
