A suggestion

To deal with the amount if trolls, i think we should be able to close a thread by voting for it. I'm not sure on the specifics (pressumably a super majority, something like 100 votes to close or something). Not sure how applicable this could be, because as soon as one fanboy got his lame thread closed it would be a flame war, but MOST of us are mature enough to only actually cote to close something if it was a serious troll thread. But that just my two cents, anyone have a better/more applicable idea?

It could go on a kind of "respect" system. For example you need the following conditions to be able to qualify;
1) A high respect rating (say over 1,000-1,200) to demonstrate that you are a credible member
2) Have at least 1,000-1,500 posts to demonstrate you know the base well

Only once you have met these restrictions can you vote to close a thread and even then the thread can only be closed if 10-15 such members vote to do so.

Rep whoring is against the rules so this restriction would be hard to fulfil. The posting one is obviously easier, but still necessary IMO so that someone has the time to learn what a "troll" thread actually looks like. Also maybe put a time limit on it (say 1 vote every 4 hours where you can only vote in a thread once) so that members can't abuse the system, and are forced to only vote when absolutely necessary.

I like that, it'd take some trial and error to get the numbers right but in theory it should work

Most definitely and we would need restrictions so that people that qualify don't become "thread closing trolls/ mini mods" either. I would suggest;

1) Any one member can only vote to close a thread once

You suppose to Report them. They say its easier when a Mod/Admin. is absence during a current situation. Also, its not easy hiring Mods because some members have no respect towards others, knowledge of NB, breaks rules, Join Date, etc. That all comes in play when becoming a Mod. @Gatsuugas Idea is a nice one, suggested before, however, not going to happen or work because you still have to install such program, not all members are credible and anyone could Troll.
