First off, I didnt make this thread to start up a war.
I made it bcuz Im stuck. I honestly dont know what to believe.
I grew up being thought abt Adam and Eve and that God created the world.
But sometimes I question this. Im sometimes inclined to believe the scientific description as to the beginning of the world...
I just need some advice from you ppl as Im not sure which to believe

the idea that supplies the most verifiable evidence is probably the correct one

This and I used to believe in all of the bible stories but I started watching some more intellectual shows, documentaries, a podcast named Joe Rogan Experience, and after hearing them my opinion changed and the thought of Adam and Eve and most of the other stories just doesn't logically make sense to me.

So I believe in evolution but these are my views and I will not force them on anyone nor should anyone else try and force their opinions on others.

Does anybody know what its like to grow up believing that something is 100% true and then one day start disbelieving that thing?

the thing about growing up, is in the early stages, you believe what ever youre told without question when its coming from the people you trust[family], and if youre indoctrinated enough youll learn to never question even into your adulthood when you have the basic reasoning skills to figure things out for yourself, and just accept things at face value, but questioning, searching, imagining are all apart of the human experience

and just to empathize with you, i grew up a devout christian..then i started thinking for myself rather than giving in to group thought, because if history taught me anything, it was that mass opinions are generally ****ed in some way or another, so i decided to search for my own personal truth, i suggest you do the same

Yeah that's happened a few times in my life so far so I know the feeling and can relate with what you're feeling. I had this lost feeling and didn't know what to do but I found comfort when it comes to religion in learning more about evolution and how the universe was made and after it all played out I felt like I had grown intelligently and I knew a lot more than I did before. So in a way I guess I comforted myself by becoming more aware and learning more.

Edit: Also what Kakashi said, when you're only a young boy you can be indoctrinated with anything, a prime example would be the Hitler Youth.

Maybe its a little of both if you believe in the ancient aliens theory =]

but the Bible IMO is nothing but a book written by man to control the masses

Thanks for your comment. I've been reading and studying a few things for over a year now which forced me to really analyze the validity of the teachings of my religion. But whenever I try to discuss with family or others, they would say Im getting arrogant or too smart and its a bad thing.

Thanks for the advice. I never really paid any attention to evolution until about a year ago. I must say that if i dare to speak of evolution with some of my religious friends or family, they would rebuke me and start talking abt heaven and hell. In the process of conducting research I read a book which stated that death is merely transition.

never stifle your quest for knowledge when you feel a yearning and curiosity to expand your understanding of things, accept that people are going to believe what theyre going to believe and whether theyre close to you or not it makes no difference because that belief defines them as a person, if you feel like that belief isnt you you must find what defines you as a person, seperate from what other people would tell you to define yourself with, my advice to you would to be to keep your new found and very young stirrings of understanding to yourself since youre still to new to the thought process to properly call it your own, maintain a face thats acceptable to the people around you but in your alone time search out what your mind seems to be searching for

hope this helped

True,true.
The sad thing is dat everyone thinks their belief is true and wants to condemn others that do not share their beliefs.

tragic set back of the human condition, were all in such a rush to find the truth we cant appreciate the journey so we presume answers and then condemn those who dont presume the same thing as us, its absurd but its the world we live in

Yeah, I do, but I still have so much faith in my religion.

It's possible that things were created to evolve, isn't it?
