Hashi fought madara and not edo madara however even with the rinnegan, the 1st cells, and perfect susano edo madara has never came out and said that he could beat hashi that says something. He is saying 5 people are nowhere near a challenge one man is. Until hiruzen shows me something more impressive myself and a lot of other people will believe hashi>hiruzen. Btw reaper death seal does not equal a win it is the equivelent of deidara blowing himself up and doesn't prove that you are stronger.

hiruzens hype-lets start out with hiruzens hype. he was stated to be the strongest hokage and kage of his generation, the professor, and mastered all of konohas jutsu at one point.

hashiramas hype- now for hashiramas hype. hashiramas strength was stated to be a myth, a fairy tail like the sage of six paths. he was also called the strongest shinobi. it was also stated that hashiramas might was so vast that no shinobi from the current era could stand up to his power. that means that hashirama>every other shinobi except edo madara.

explaining the hype-we will get back to hashiramas hype. hiruzen was stated to be the strongest kage. nobody at the time from when hiruzen was getting all his fame(which was his prime) knew about or believed in hashiramas strength. hashiramas strength was considered a myth.

now lets define myth:
a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation, especially one that is concerned with deities or demigods and explains some practice, rite, or phenomenon of nature.

so the people that tried to tell the future generations about hashiramas strength were dismissed because nobody thought a shinobi could be so strong. this is supported by the manga because hashiramas strength was considered a myth, a fairy tail like rikudo sennin. does everyone believe in the sage. nope.

Feats- now lets get to their feats. hiruzen is severely outclassed in this department. hashirama defeated ems madara with the kyuubi. ems madara by himself is one of the strongest characters in the narutoverse. combine this with the fact that he had the kyuubi by his side which is the strongest tailed beast, then you can see why hashiramas strength was considered a myth. hiruzen had to pull out reaper death seal on a nerfed edo hashirama and edo tobirama who were stated by orochimaru to be toying with hiruzen. while hiruzen very well may be much stronger in his prime, his hype and feats put him nowhere near hashiramas level.

databooks- databooks have been wrong on multiple occasions like saying orochimaru invented edo tensei and saying naruto and sakura were equals. the info in these can be faulty and it is outdated. how long has it been since kishi has released a databook? not recently.

conclusion- people from the future generations that heard of hashiramas strength considered his strength a myth. people believed that hiuzen was the strongest didnt believe in hashiramas strength. they reasoned that hiruzen was the strongest because that was what they saw and hiruzen>hashirama is what seemed reasonable to them because hashiramas strength seemed to exaggerated.

Sarutobi is apparently strong because he practically had to suicide in order to seal 2 weak ass versions of the 1st and 2nd and ended up not winning because Orochimaru is still alive...

to be honest Kishi F**KED up by say Sarutobi is strongest and then we see hashi in map changing battles with all these amazing feats that sarutobi couldn't even come close to...

No actuallY I believe was was called the strongest shinobi, power to be that of a myth or fairytale. An that there were no shinboi on his level, an he was a ninja in his own class. Why is it he's the god shinobi but has done next to nothing important. And he didn't beat the 1st an 2nd like everyone keeps saying he beat mindless drones. In the ninja world mind is half the battle so honestly he fought them at half power or less an still had to kill himself to win. Neither you or the dude who made this thread can tell me how the 3rd could beat the 1st,2nd,minato,A,the 4th raikage,muu,or onoki. U might argue that hashirama didn't use all his KNOWN jutsus..but then how many did hiruzen use?..hiruzen countered all d attacks hashirama and tobirama used accordingly..he knew what they were capable of..If hashi used 5 jutsus,hiruzen countered it with 5 adequate jutsus..IF hashi went ahead to use 10 jutsus in that fight,hiruzen would have countered with 10 adequate jutsus too..

Tobirama used suiton,hiruzen countered with doton
Tobirama used used genjustu,hiruzen counterd with keen sense of smell...

hiruzen shown no real power in any episode or manga , only the reference of him being the "god of shinobi" by various ninja, due to his vast knowledge of ninjutsu ect. if he was that strong when the nine tails attacked he would of stomped it and saved minato, but when it came down to it he did nothing.

I feel like kishi initially intended for Hiruzen to be the strongest in there series hence statements earlier in the series but didn't know where the series would go in the long run. When he was stated as a god among shinobi and he fought oro and the first and second hokage I imagine at the time, Kishi intended this to be the pinnacle of power for the series. As time went by though and the story developed he obviously has to progress powers and so on. I don't think he ever expected to make characters as strong as Madara is currently.

It isn't the first time we have seen things like this happen. For instance, in Dragonball Z the series was never intended to go any further than goku becoming the legendary super saiyan and defeating freeza but the series was a great success. It was only logical to keep going. As it went on the powers became more absurd and ridiculous making everything else seem insignificant.

Had kishi known just how far the story would have progressed from the begining, there never would have been any discription of Hiruzen being at the level of a god or he would have been shown vastly more powerful.

That all being said, Hiruzen defiantly could have been regarded as a god when we saw his powers in the series We had yet to see anything else even close to what he was capable of. Even now he can be regarded as "one of" the strongest. However, it is clearly evident he is not "the" strongest having seen Madara in action and knowing there was someone even stronger.

TL;DR Hiruzen may have been intended to be the strongest but the story evolved in a direction Kishi wasn't expecting in the first place. In my opinion

Are you denying Kishis words, if Kishi wanted to change his mind and make Hashirama stronger, why not change the data book?
He didnt though cause Hiruzen is still the strongest.
People say that Hashirama learnt new moves in part 2, but that wasnt part 2 new moves. Those were old moves that Hashirama been had just now comming to light
Hashirama and Tobirama been died before part 1, So Hiruzen being stronger than them still holds true



And as you can see in there it says strongest Hokage and strongest of the current Kage in his old age.

So that means stronger than the 3rd Raikage, 3rd Kazekage, 3rd Tsuchikage, and 3rd Mizukage
And this isnt even prime Hiruzen

And we all know how every village commented on how the 3rd in every village is the strongest Kage.(But the 3rd MIzukage is unknown)
