Well when Nagato revived the leaf it killed him. Now that could be because of his lack of chakra from his fight with Naruto, or it could be cause he saved a whole village but it is also possible that reviving of someone kills the person doing the reviving. Much like the reaper death seal takes the host with it.

I think the rinnegans revival jutsu requires souls to have been taken using human path or whatever
