Itachis goal was to stop Edo tensie. He never intended to stop madara. He achieved his goal so no he did not fail. Just thought I should point this out before the haters get all wet..:ice:

He didn't help much by releasing Edo Tensei, but he was able do defeat Kabuto.

Besides, it wasn't even his job to stop it he just did it anyway.

He's only made Sasuke crazier and made Madara stronger. Furthermore the 'Madara' that Itachi was referring to was the masked Madara aka Tobi. He has no knowledge of Edo Madara.

Just after last manga release we had ppl saying itachi is the savior of the kages and what not.

Now ppl say madara was never the responsibility of itachi lol. Anyway itachi did what he was revived by kishi for - found a permanent solution to the edos that were already sealed or restrained.

You're focusing on what Itachi did, some more meaningless than others. However you're not focusing on the big picture: Itachi failed to stop the Edo Tensei that needed to be stopped. He failed to stop the trump card, the one that Kabuto believed could dominate this war.

If the Edo Tensei were all dominating the battlefield and Itachi stopped them, I'd agree that Itachi didn't fail. However Itachi released Edo Tensei shinobi whom were already stopped, and failed to stop the one who had to be stopped? I don't think that means he succeeded.

My main disappointment with Itachi's failed effort was that even with the enhanced capabilities that Edo Tensei gave him, he still could not do it. :neutral

Looking at Madara, we can clearly see how well he 'stopped' the jutsu.
He stopped the Edo Tensei whom were already stopped bar Kimimaro and Chiyo; he didn't stop the Edo Tensei who absolutely needed to be stopped.

First off madara can still demolish the entire army. So therefore itachi really didn't do anything. Madara could easily stop playing around with the kages and demolish the army and itachis stop the Edo tensei tech would really fail. He failed just give it up.

How would Izanami work on Madara? Further how would Itachi land a A and A1 loop? Itachi with Sasuke barely managed to do that to Kabuto... You are now telling me he can manage it against Madara, who 5 Kage can't budge.

Madara is an Edo Tensei and Itachi failed to stop him. Whether or not anyone could've stopped him is another discussion.
Itachi's statement was to end Edo Tensei - no exceptions.

I agree he achieved what he wanted, he finished Edo Tensei without knowing the seals against an extremely good opponent that sealed his eyes to avoid his genjutsu and at the same he got to teach Kabuto(deceiving himself with power) and his brother(Izanami and Uchiha wars) some things. He also saved Naruto and Killer Bee from certain defeat against Nagato, sealing that threat in the way. He also had a proper goodbye with Sasuke. He had an amazing time in his edo form in matter of goals.
