Before you read i ask that you read all of it or at least as much as you can tolerate before posting
They' are alot of members on NB who believe that Hashirama was simply to powerful to die in battle. With all of the hype that he has been receiving lately its understandable to see why others may think so.However i would like to shed some light on a possibility that he did in fact die in battle.
Lets start by looking at the difference between a 1v1 scenario compared to a battlefield. Obviously in a battlefield scenario there is more then one opponent to focus on. Its realitivly easy to get caught off guard or cheap shoted by something as simple as a kuni. Compared with a 1v1 situation that getting defeated by something as simple as a kuni is unacceptable. So realistically its highly possible that anyone weather it be a kage lvl fighter or a genin can be caught off guard in the middle of chaotic battlefield.
Now It has been stated that both hashirama and madara have met countless times in battle. Yet neither of them were ever successful in killing the other.
Well when they met in the valley of the end madara lost flat out this simply could not have just happened easily.
This brings me to my next point which i believe is the turning point for both Hashirama and Madara The valley of the end. We have yet to see this epic battle completely occur in the manga. Its has been made clear tho that hashirama is stronger then madara but by how much. Both hashirama and madara fought countless times and neither was killed so its can be inferred that they are both really close in power. Its obvious that this fight was not one sided so it had to have been a long dragged out battle which pushed both sides to their limits mentally and physically(we have seen pictures of how beat up they are). Just take a look at some of the ability's that these two display. These are some devastating ability's
We have gotten pictures of hashirama during that fight and he looks ****ed up.
There is no doubt that this fight was all out destruction(i mean they did create a valley) and i believe that it is highly possible that both Madara and Hashirama due to this battle suffered permanent damage to there body's.

Now both websites have a different interpretation. I will be addressing both. If hashirama stepped down and gave tobirama the title of hokage at least to me it would make sense. Hiruzen gave minato the title of hokage because hiruzen probobly felt that a young minato would be able to defend/do the job as hokage better then a old hiruzen. The title of kage is a symbol of the villages power through leadership and fighting ability. If hashirama suffered damage due to his fight with madara(which is highly probable) he might have felt the same way with his brother as hiruzen did with minato. The first shinobi war was rageing at the time so i believe this could have been hashis mind set.
Now in the other scenario hashi would still be hokage during the 1st shinobi war but due to his bodily damage could still have died in battle and Tobirama would have inherited the hokage title.
In short what im saying is that due to all of hashis hype lately people have gone to believe that hashi could not have been killed in a random battle.people need to take into account that a battle field is not a 1v1 situation at all and chances of death are already higher. His hype has also lead others to forget that the battle of the valley of the end was not a one sided battle and it could have been heavily damaging on both party's not just the guy who lost. The high possibility that hashi suffered permanent damage to his body on top of having to fight in a war i see it as a very possible way to die.
