Im wondering about this ability...does the user control what gets sealed? And if not can a object not alive like a rock be sealed?

Pretty much no, only same sealing abilities but brothers used SageOfTheSixPaths legenadary tools, which requires tailedbeast level chakras+ they are more powerful. Itachis weapon or "bottle" aint sages weapons..

no because the sword puts them in an infinite genjutsu. check the wiki page for the sword. itll only work on something that genjutsu works on. i dont think it would work on a rock

It has to be something living or Edo basically anything that can fall into genjutsu
